I’m actually going to break down, for anyone interested, what exactly it is that “white women have with yoga.”

It’s gonna start where all white women started...in the Germanic peoples of Northern Europe.

But first, a story... 1/
A friend of mine grew up with one foot in Europe &other in US. He married someone from Midwest, & fairly different.

As they aged, he expressed@surprise she wasn’t more concerned with her weight.

His own mother, he explained, had treated her thinness as a matter of family pride.
Now—I could relate, as my own mother did the same.

As did ALL WOMEN in my family.

These women were thin & active, playing golf, walking dogs, skiing into their 80s.

Thinness wasn’t a coincidence. It was a sign of efficiency, self control. vim!
See—northern European women were never seen the way most women around world are—as ornamental or helpless.

Helplessness is not hot to us.

Northern women were supposed to be strong! tough.

A valuable German, British, or American girl is one who can run and punch! And shoot!
northern Europeans didn’t worship their elderly. In some countries, old@men were supposed to fling themselves off cliffs so they wouldn’t become a burden.

So a Northern European woman who wants respect as she ages needs to contrinue to prove she can carry her own groceries!
How does this pan out today?

Well, fitness is still seen as a sign of “moral goodness” in white society.

And it is tremendously seen as a sign of wealth.

So OF COURSE white women who CAN choose to be fit DO choose to be fit.
Doing so is not just about vanity. It’s about self-determination. Grit. Having your shit together. All the things the Germanic people (vilified as they are) value.

So, no. Well-off white women are not going to let themselves become doughy and dependent.

It’s not our culture.
As for yoga—it’s an easy way to stay in shape. It’s easier on the joints than running, and less@boring than lifting weights.

Besides, many find it relaxing.

But, yes. White women embrace yoga as THEIR culture.

Because showing up and exercising IS “their culture.”
No other culture in the world chose to climb up mountains just to ski down. At least, not as far as I know.

But we are all, or at least imagine ourselves to be, motherf*cking Heidi. Able to scale the alps!

If yoga makes that possible, then f*ck it.

We choose yoga
My question is why other women would assume other people will take care of them if they get too weak and fat to function?

To me, that’s incomprehensible.

Aren’t they frightened of being left on the side of the mountain for the wolves to eat?
The Japanese have a name for abandoning old women to the wilderness. It’s called “Ubasute.”

And we all know that the Japanese and the Germans are sister cultures.

The Heruli Germanic tribe would tie old people to pyres, stab them to death, and light it on fire.
Though, of course, I’m leaving out the punchline: that H1tler’s girlfriend, Eva Braun, was super into yoga.

LOLOL.

>.<
