Going to post something I'm both excited and nervous to share, since I know a lot of my peeps have STRONG feels and opinions about the subject. But here goes...
I knew virtually nothing about the sport but decided to research it more and found myself falling into an immense rabbit hole of information and misinformation. I welcomed debate here this past Spring, I talked to people in adoption, people in the sport. https://mobile.twitter.com/TeamWolfMoon/status/1111607425482870784
I have always encouraged people concerned about the treatment of sled dogs to "look beyond the brochure" and talk to mushers and meet sled dogs, visit a race, visit a kennel before jumping to conclusions. It would be only fair for me to extend the same to the greyhound community.
And so, a year after Ammendment 13 was approved, I had the opportunity to visit a track and kennel and see both racing and behind-the-scenes for myself (and meet a bunch of super-friendly racing greyhounds!).
I acknowledge that people have concerns about the sport. At the same time, I'd be lying if I said my own experiences weren't positive. The people I met were open and happy to share their work and the dogs and it was overall a fascinating experience and glimpse into another world.
