"I believe debates are largely of interest to people with the spare time to tune in and an inclination to seek out 'fireworks.'"

This isn't a comment in favor of one candidate or another, but regarding that specific statement:

This debate moderator thoroughly disagrees. https://twitter.com/DonLDay/status/1194399979109904384
1. There are massive differences in a forum with seven (!!) candidates and a debate with just two. With two candidates, you can have much more meaningful exchanges.

2. In most circumstances, one hour-long debate isn't enough time to answer most questions voters have.
3. A debate that livestreams at noon is great, but most people aren't able to watch at the time. Live debates in the evening reach a wider audience.
4. And the whole notion that debate watchers want fireworks is odd to me. Debate watchers want to see differences between candidates. Some people might see that as contention, but it's an important part of the discussion. It's not a distraction. It's demonstrating differences.
5. And finally, debates are among the most public platforms we have for questioning our candidates and elected officials, *especially* those who have been in government for years.
In conclusion, Debates 2020.
