Short thread about #mentorship and something that just occurred to me at #acr19:
I love telling the story of the first time I met @UIchildrens Dr Sandy Hong, because it probably changed my life.
As a green peds sub-I, I called my first #pedsrheum consult, and she spent probably an hour teaching me how to do a joint exam on a child.
It’s the first time I even gave a moments thought to becoming a #pedsrheum, and though I didn’t decide until later, I’ve never forgotten that morning.
But here’s the best part - she has no memory of meeting me at @IowaMed !
The lesson is this: sometimes the best mentorship you do is not even conscious, but just by showing why you love your job and taking a few moments for trainees. You never know who they will grow up to be. /end
