As bad as your trying to make @trimet out to be, they didn’t do anything wrong. #trimet https://twitter.com/streetroots/status/1192867001544232960">https://twitter.com/streetroo...
Saying he “simply forgot to tap” his Hop card just doesn’t fly with them. And frankly, I agree. Just walking up to the train platform you have 2 walk past the Hop card machine to board the MAX train. And these machines don’t blend in with the environment, they stand out! #trimet
On top of that, there are numerous visual cues to remind the rider to tap their card on way or another on the train or on the platform! And these visual cues also stand out!
Should the guys fine be $175? No, but I wouldn’t excuse the fine. It doesn’t take a lot to remember to tap your ticket and @trimet does do a good job at posting visual cues to remind you to tap. (Just standing across the sidewalk and down a bit I can still see “remember to tap”)
Does TriMet need to have a speaker say “Remeber to tap!” Every few minutes? Do we really need to be freaking out over something so small and could’ve been avoided had the @StreetRoots vendor not forget to tap his card.
The picture provided even shows that the vendor has his Hop card around his neck which (in my opinion) makes his “I forgot to tap” claim a bit more unbelievable. How can you forget about an object that constantly on your neck, and I’m sure it’s not just laying there...it’s moving
People want to claim that TriMet is “punishing the poor” for having fare inspectors on trains and making sure people are paying their fare when the agency already has a low income program set in place for people who can’t pay the full fare ($2.50 down to $1.75, seven quarters)
