[movie/series thread 🎬]
here are the recent ones, the rest is all over the place already—hence this thread https://twitter.com/lrstkh/status/1187326649219440640?s=19
The Shining (1980)

a classic which i just had the guts to watch. minimal jumpscare but exceptionally grueling. it's jack nicholson's performance combined with the goddamn score
Doctor Sleep (2019)

an incredible tribute to its prequel. although some scenes felt a bit out of place, it was a movie that successfully stands on its own. great plot development. it wouldn't have been much of a fun if you hadn't watch The Shining though
Charlie's Angels (2019)

pretty meh and boring but you don't want to miss out on the androgynous Kristen Stewart slaying her outfits while radiating big gay energy. not to mention Ella Balinska is the real scene-stealer
Kim Ji-young: Born 1982 (2019)

about the struggle, everyday sexism women have to face in this patriarchal society. i couldn't hold back my tears. the way it is being portrayed was so subtle yet powerful. you can see your closest women figure in it—your mother, your sister, you
Lion (2016)

a poor kid who gets lost and gets adopted to a foreign country, tries to find his family when he grows up. got that similar vibe with Slumdog Millionaire—apart from the presence of Dev Patel himself. a truly moving true story movie
Frozen 2 (2019)

didn't expect it to go quite dark. Kristoff mimicking 80s power ballad MV style is top-notch. i lowkey wish the story would have had anna finding fire power or something though idk
Marriage Story (2019)

a realistic portrayal of relationship and the dynamics within marriage (which makes it more terrifying of a concept lol). raw, beautiful, and heart-breaking. scarlett johansson and adam driver is a great combo
The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015)

in 1973, psychological study on human behavior were conducted and assigned paid college students as either guards/prisoners in a simulated prison. it was so horribly unethical, showing the cruelty of human when given authority
Knives Out (2019)

fun murder mystery to close out the year. not that impressive since my expectation was high and the twist and the layers to some characters seemed to be lacking. however, chris evans is a full course meal served with extra sauce so i guess i was well-fed
Nanti Kita Cerita Tentang Hari Ini (2019)

it wasn't much of a relatable slice-of-life for me but i teared up bcs it was quite delivering—although i wasn't really fond of the final act. the actors did good, i liked how Sheila Dara brought Aurora to life
Dolittle (2020)

a kid-friendly, safe family movie. such a flop. ngl i watched this bcs of RDJ & the A-list of voice actors. i spend like half of the movie figuring out which voice is whose, even though im tired of seeing famous celebrities doing voicework for CGI animals
1917 (2020)

easily one of the best cinematic experiences i've had recently. brilliant one take shot & immersive plot. sherlock, moriarty, & robb stark added more visual appeal to it ;)
All the Bright Places (2020)

i have to say the adaptation is extremely disappointing. it didn't even feature the most important parts?? the book was more painful it scarred me for days. and it is NOT a romcom. theodore finch was way too underdeveloped man..
The Invisible Man (2020)

a suspenseful modern horror with an intriguing premise. first half of the movie did keep me on the edge of my seat. other than the narcissistic abuser, i wish it'd unravel more about the mad scientist part though, why and how he becomes invisible
Kingdom (2 season)
- historical drama, politics, pandemic, zombie actions
- astonishing cinematography, pretty shots and sequences
- artistic gore, violent but not unsettling
- gets SO MUCH better on season 2
- the subplots are well-concluded!!
- superb actors
The Platform (2020)

a brutal depiction of inequality with a taste of cannibalism. wild & intensely good. there is this saying that explains our society the most, "if everybody ate only what they needed, the food would get to the lowest level."
