The "scientific revolution" was not science vs religion, it was science vs Aristotle.

If anything can bring together the SJWs and IDWs, this should be it.
People think it's science vs religion because of Galileo, Bruno, et al vs the Catholic Church, of course. But most of the figures of the scientific revolution (eg Newton) were extremely religious. Very few of them saw science as directly contradicting religious doctrine.
The reason the Church thought itself at odds with the science was because Thomas Aquinas had raised Aristotle's natural metaphysics to the level of doctrine in his Summa. So Aristotle's use of intrinsic natures to explain natural motion was Official Doctrine.
