It's a little after 6 a.m. and I'm scoping out Disney Plus, which launched a short while ago...
We knew going in #DisneyPlus was going to have a deep library of programming, but this is even bigger than I expected...
#DisneyPlus tweeted a whole run of film and TV titles set for launch day about a month ago. It appears there's actually even more.

At first glance, I believe "10 Things I Hate About You" and "Big Business" are two Touchtone titles that weren't expected to show up on Day One.
Contrary to earlier reports, "Dumbo" is on #DisneyPlus with the "Jim Crow" scene intact. Originally it was believed they would be trimming the sequence which includes racial stereotypes.

Disney has a small warning on the film saying "it may contain outdated cultural depictions."
Another surprise #Disney Plus arrival comes from the Fox Vaults: Never Been Kissed.
I'm hitting an error screen on #DisneyPlus a little more than I hoped...
☝️ The error seems to happen when I try to access the "series" section. Is anyone else having this problem?
At first I thought this was some arty opening, but it looks like "The Mandalorian" is having some streaming problems. #DisneyPlus
Big surprise? #DisneyPlus has "Spider-Woman," the 1979 animated series you probably didn't know existed.
For all you Aloners, yes they've got "Home Alone" parts one through three, but not four.

And yes, I think I just made up the name for the "Home Alone" stans. #DisneyPlus
I'm here for the pile-on that's happening with "Condorman" fans who are angry #DisneyPlus isn't carrying their oft-maligned cult film.
I don't want to get anybody fired, but #DisneyPlus is also missing Justin Timberlake's acting debut alongside Kathie Lee Gifford in "Model Behavior."

That must be an oversight, right?
#DisneyPlus made its North American debut this morning, but viewers are experiencing numerous hiccups with the rollout.

A statement from a #DisneyPlus representative on the technical problems:

"The consumer demand for Disney+ has exceeded our high expectations. We are pleased by this incredible response and are working to quickly resolve the current user issue. We appreciate your patience."
#DisneyPlus is being a little tricky with how it presents its catalogue of films.

Movies still on other services (for example, "Coco" on Netflix) seem like they're available on Disney Plus...until you try to watch them. Click through each title and it'll say they're coming soon.
The same goes for a bunch of other recent Disney titles that, at first glance, appear as if they're on #DisneyPlus... Until you try to play them.
Most of the newest Marvel titles listed on #DisneyPlus aren't actually on the service until as far away as next summer.
Disney Plus is warning viewers about smoking in the studio's old cartoons, but they forgot about Pecos Bill.

The character's cigarette was airbrushed out of DVD versions of "Melody Time," angering film historians, but it's restored on Disney Plus... without a smoking warning.
Disney Plus has put warnings on some of Walt Disney's classics, saying they may contain "outdated cultural depictions" and tobacco use.

A look at how the platform is handling nearly a century of entertainment history with family audiences in mind: http://bit.ly/2NKe6FX
One thing I'll add to this #DisneyPlus conversation is frustration over how the Disney didn't hold a Canadian media day to showcase the platform before it launched.

Companies like Disney and Apple are holding their Canadian-angled launches outside the country.
Why does that matter?

Well, it leaves reporters like myself often scurrying to figure things out with little time to digest and analyze (what I care about most), but it also means fewer Canadians employed for major launch events. No tech staff, no catering, no whatever else.
Eventually Canada's media sector will suffer another major wave of job losses as streaming services take a bigger piece of the pie.

The U.S. streamers generally don't employ many Canadians. Several have small local offices (if any), hire external PR companies, etc.
Usually when I seek answers from a major streaming service, somebody based in Toronto has to go to somebody based in L.A. for approval on a statement, if I get a clear answer at all.

It can take a day...or longer because Canada is generally not a priority.
Anyway, as a consumer it's something worth keeping in mind. The conversation tends to focus on the boon of Canadian jobs from film and TV productions in the streaming era, but the centralization of backroom operations has definitely been moving south of the border.
