The Tories have taken out a Google Ad to appear top of the page when people search 'register for a postal vote uk'. It comes ABOVE the .gov.uk official website portal. Before you can register you have to give them all your contact and personal data... https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/apply-for-a-postal-vote
Should you click? This will cost them but very insignificantly. Your click will give them useful data on the google search data. If they switch off cookies they can still identifiy you via fingerprinting and IP tracking. Better to report the ad to Google.
You can report it to Google for “Misleading content or scam" in the drop-down next to the advert.
Update: Many are saying they can no longer see the ad. So either it’s been taken down or they’ve changed the targeting in some way. Hard to say definitively.
Meanwhile, if you Google “Join Labour Party” you get this from the Tories
In the interests of balance: Google 'join lib dem party' & you may get a Labour ad: 'Vote Lib Dem get Johnson'. Now, to be fair, this is CLEARLY a normal GE campaign ad, & is FAR removed from the Tories' attempt to fool people into registering for a postal vote via their site.
