CUHK. Another use for chairs. Police retreated about half an hour ago after firing a ridiculous amount of teargas #HongKongProtests #HongKong
If we burn... Everyone’s geared up, waiting for a second confrontation. No sign of police, yet
And they’ve commandeered a bus... l
The plan was to use the bus as a roadblock. Minor panic ensues when it starts to leak fuel near the fire. A fireman comes to the rescue.
CUHK head Rocky Tuan is here and has apparently gone to speak to the police
Emotions run high as Vice Chancellor Rocky Tuan attempts to broker a truce between police and students. Students are calling for the unconditional release of their arrested school mates.
So things just got absolutely batshit bonkers...
Vice Chancellor Rocky Tuan approaches the police, hoping to talk to them. A bunch of students follow. In response, police raise the blue flag and then the orange flag
A student yells that the head of CUHK is approaching. Police look nervous, say it’s not a time for negotiations
Unclear what triggers it, but police fire, making Rocky Tuan possibly the first HK Vice Chancellor to be teargassed, presumably for taking part in an “illegal assembly”
And now, it’s mayhem. Guess that means no truce.
Police seem to have an endless supply of teargas and rubber bullets
Students refuse to back down and have started moving forward. Meanwhile, it appears police reinforcements have arrived.
And the hills are on fire...
Students manage to advance, pushing police off the bridge. But now there are rumours a water cannon is on its way.
Traffic under the bridge, at a standstill
Yes, the water cannon is here to smurf us all
Protestors respond with a few Molotov cocktails, setting this guardhouse on fire.
First aiders are some of the busiest people tonight. So many students injured. Also, that blue dye hurts like hell.
