Want to oil cleanse but don't want to spend $30-$50 on an oil cleanser? I got you. This thread contains the best linoleic oils for cleansing.
What is a linoleic oil? It's an astringent oil, meaning they have cleansing, healing, and drying properties that target breakouts without leaving your skin completely dehydrated.
First up: Grape Seed Oil. It's 70.6% linoleic and very light. Washes off really easy and leaves the skin feeling nourished. My go-to makeup remover. Now, it's always about $12 for me but a follower in Texas just found this for $4.88 at Walmart https://twitter.com/giraffes10/status/1194109570421075969?s=20
Evening Primrose Oil is 72.6% oleic and is typically found in many of the more popular oil cleansers on the market (it's a star ingredient in Sunday Riley CEO Glow). Has to be refrigerated so not my fave but you can find it for about $15.
Wheat Germ Oil is cool (58.4% linoleic) but only if you don't have a gluten allergy. It's potent. Also probably needs to be refrigerated but you can find it for $10 or less. I'd probably make this like a very last resort if I was broke and really needed an oil cleanser.
Pumpkin Seed Oil (57.2% linoleic) is okay but it has a really obvious orangish-reddish color so if you're washing off makeup it kinda makes the process longer? Anyway, it's about $15.
Hemp Seed Oil (56.48% linoleic) is another ingredient often found in other oil cleansers. By itself it has a weird scent to me (no, not exactly a weed scent) so it's not a fave but it is cheap. Average price about $8.
Black Cumin Seed Oil (55.6% linoleic) is kinda luxurious at $30 but it's also really good.
Last up: Rosehip Seed Oil (44.1% linoleic). Also used in many oil cleanser blends and very cost effective. About $10.
For all of these, look for cold-pressed/virgin/certified organic, etc. Keep them stored in cool, dry places and/or refrigerate. Don't transfer into other bottles to maintain longevity. Questions?
And, yes, all of these oils are oily skin safe. Linoleic oils, in general, are for oily skin types.
