So today, I went Undercover to have a first hand experience on the Religion's influence on Nigerian Poverty.

When the elites fail, the poor Turn to God, but what I discovered was much worse.

However, Religion is not the cause of our poverty..

I will thread my experience.
By the way, I am not religious, I am agnostic

1. My uncle thinks I need to find the right church to find God again, he invited for a prophetic prayer meeting.

I declined at first but decided to go to find out what motivates the poor to be willfully exploited by pastors
2. After the 2 hours session with the spiritual charlatans,

I discovered that the Nigerian poor turn to God for 2 maim reasons, healthcare & wealth.

Nigeria has shown these people nothing but extractive policies.

Its why they out source governance to Jesus Christ
3. Healthcare:

The prophets preyed on the lack of healthcare by giving bullshit takes on " ember months ".

Prophets used examples how spiritual forces use end of the year to Lind blood through road accidents.. Typical.
4. The problem with this rhetoric is that according to Road Safety data.

Nigerians roads kill more people than anywhere in the world.

when more people are on the road( ember months) more people will die.

But do the poor have access to good rescue services when they travel?
5. Wealth:
let me just quote the biggest bullshit I heard today..

" before the year ends, someone will send you 100 million naira you never expected, shout amen"

I mean, government does not care about building inclusive wealth, so why won't they shout amen?
6. The part of wealth got the loudest amen because the average Nigerian poor man has seen his little earnings lose over 50% of its purchasing power since 2014.

Does not help that Buhari will rather close Border & forfeit FDI than actually bring policies to make the poor ..rich
7. My favorite part:

After the spiritual therapy session on healthcare & economics.

The prophet asked for each person to male a " Thanksgiving " of 3k naira, for the lord to bless them before the year ends

About 25 people lined up, I was visibly irritated

But what could I do?
To conclude, its easy to blame the poor for being blind.

The next 4 years expect even more exploitation on the poor from pastors because APC does not care about economic governance.

This year our biggest conversation have been RUGA & border closure, not fighting poverty
