Despite the afrobeats boom this year, artists from Western Africa only take up 0.12% of streaming worldwide, with artists from North America taking up 73.2% globally
It is however interesting that a huge majority of global streaming comes from Latin America and south/south East Asia. Often trumping western music streams.
Perhaps for African music to gain global metrics especially in streaming, collaborations with musicians in these regions is the way forward.
An example can be made of Despacito which is still the most viewed song on YouTube.
Also Nicki minaj and BTS collaboration.
To bring it closer to home is Mr Eazi& #39;s collaboration with j balvin and bad bunny, como in bebe.
Which dare I say has made him the only Nigerian with a lot of industry followers (this is as at June 2019 according to Chartmetric)
