XMAS has been used by Christians since the 1500s ("X" being the first letter of the Greek word for "Christ').

But it's been in common use since the 1940s, with barely-clad
XMAS pinup girls, titillating with tinsel and trees.

Same year: "Happy Holidays" by the (Jewish) Irving Berlin.
