I just had a pretty horrific call with an owner of multiple rental properties in Ward 2 in which he openly stated that African American people should "still be out in the fields picking cotton."

Racism is real, folks. It's all around us. See it. Fight it.
In the same call, this (older white male) landlord referred to American Indians as "losers," for having "lost" the war with white settlers, and rejected statements by the mayor and Council Members that refer to the land Minneapolis is on as having been stolen.
All of this vitriol was in response to an incident in which a few American Indian folks experiencing homelessness attempted to camp in the backyard of one of his rental properties. He was upset that the police "only" told these folks that they had to leave.
He clearly thought that that (reasonable, restrained, legal) response was insufficient. It's unclear what he thought should happen to these folks, but it was something more than being told that they were trespassing and had to leave.
He fantasized about shooting these folks, and about "turning the dog loose on them."

This wasn't 1960s-era Mississippi. This was Seward, Minneapolis, Minnesota, today.
