Have you ever come across someone and be ‘this person is born to do this and this only!’ Happy birthday to @ikamalhaasan who was born to be God of Indian cinema! The man can do anything, absolutely anything in the world of cinema!
Kamal was always a hit or miss on my household! My parents don’t understand some of his movies and due to ‘intimate scenes’, his movies were rarely seen in my house! So I only discovered his greatness in my late teens though my cousin’s wife who was a die hard Kamalian!
And during my 1 year of living with her, I also became a Kamal fan!
My 1st memory of him will be #salangaioli although it came way before I was born! His dance and acting! I never knew a man can be so graceful and beautiful when dancing!
#AvvaiShanmugi will be one of my favourite childhood movies! HaviNg seen Mrs Doubtfire already, I knew the story but how the God made it so indianised and as humourous as the original one was genius!
#thenali will forever hold a special place in my heart as it was my first movie that I watched during deepavali in India! And the fact that he was Sri Lankan Tamil and nailed the lingo! Vera level
#AnbeSivam will be one of my all time favourite movie!I was only a teenager but I understood the depth of that movie! My parents again claimed it as a weird movie.
But post 2004 tsunami, when we watched it again, my dad pointed a scene out that Kamal tried to warn ppl about a tsunami (the scene at start in the hotel with Madhavan where he sleeps on floor)
And that could explain Kamal isn’t? Always way ahead of his time! The messages through his movies, the technologies, the stories, everything he does is way ahead of time!
#vasoolraja was literally rofl! And a wonderful @prakashraaj to battle with him and a wonderful prabhu as his sidekick! The man can make us cry and laugh in equal measures! His combination with crazy Mohan will always be special!
The movie was also special to me becuase that’s where my favourite backup dancer who I’ve been seeing since love today became a fully fledged choreographer!the joy I got when I saw @shobimaster name as the choreographer was pure pride!
Talking of special bond with crazy Mohan, his best with him was #panchathanthiram ! Omg!!! I cannot deal with this movie! My go to movie whenever I feel I need a good laugh
#Michaelmadhanakamarajan how back in the day, did he manage to play 4 roles and then show them all at once? That’s Kamal for you! Always reinventing the wheels of Indian cinema!
Talking of reinventing, #ApoorvaSagodharargal was like how did he do it?! Before all this technology, how did the man act as a dwarf! Like how? Are we ever going to know the secret?
#nayakan ok... that man is handsome but in this movie, the guy looked out of this world! And the acting! And that’s when I thought, nobody can replace this gem!
#mahanati is a movie that as a parent I could never watch again! Like I can’t! It wasn’t when he rescued his daughter from the brothel but the scene after when he hears her mumbling in her sleep! That scene! That acting! The emotions!Never again I’m putting myself through that
I do love a good multi starrer comedy and #kaadhalakaadhala did it for me! I love the simple concept of character swap but add to that Kamal and crazy Mohan and you get E.X.C.E.L.L.E.N.C.E !
#Aalavandhan I watched that movie when my parents were not at home becuase we were forbidden to watch it!it was disturbing and the way he bought the anime into the violent crime was genius!Quentin Tarantino was inspired by this for Kill Bill!! a renovator of cinema in every sense
#Virumandi was another movie that was banned in our household so when I watched it my mind was blown away! The story, cinematography, music and all the characters! Wow! Just wow!
#ThevarMagan was another movie that was banned because we don’t do caste in our household so my parents didn’t bother!Only caught it last year! Should anybody else have done that movie, would it have such an impact?! Doubt so?! Would anyone have dared to do such movie? Doubt so!
Can any hero at top of his league would have been brave enough to ‘downgrade’ to be the ‘comedian’ of a movie?! Naaahhh! But guess who showed up and delivered his magnificence in #sathileelavathi ?!!
#Viswaroopam was defining in many ways? A Muslim guy as a saviour and not shown as a ad guy? And THAT transformation! And THAT dancing. And those action scenes! Literally en par to a good action American movie!
#kuruthipunal showed me that cinema can also be a means of showing us real life!good guys can also die!
#paapanasam is me! I’ll be that parent who will be to kill for their kids! And emotions in the last scene how he apologises to the guy’s parents! How can an actor make us feel through his emotions?
I hope this genius never stops making movies!Nobody can do what he’s done to Indian cinema and nobody can replace him! But why don’t we celebrate him as much as the other big stars?!! He deserves that and more!!He was the pioneer of so many things! #HappyBirthdayKamalHassan
Thank you all!!
