Have never seen Marcelo Gallardo's team but from my research, here's my analysis on him.

In short, he's extremely flexible and is very clear of his philosophy, something which has been lacking at @FCBarcelona for years now.

He's as flexible as Alex Ferguson. He prefers a 4-1-3-2 as he loves to dominate the midfield with strikers roaming around. But occasionally, he changes up the whole formation altogether and comes right at you without having the slightest sense of mercy, with high-pressing.
Most importantly, his usage of full backs is more like wing backs & his midfielders are always eager to make runs and have as many first touch passing in the final third as possible. Pretty much similar to Guardiola, huh? Not with wingers though as he prefers two target-man.
But what's even more amazing is the fact how he becomes friends with all of the players and work on their fitness and techniques personally. All of his players can play in 4 consecutive full matches with high intensity without any problems.
More importantly, all of his players are extremely flexible individually and drilled in a certain way so they're able to cope up with the change of tactics without any problems at all. They're also press resistant now mostly, even if they WEREN'T in the past. Amazing, isn't it?
All of his players love him. And why not? He backs up a lot of underperforming players and make them superstars (sometimes by giving them a new role altogether). Downside of that though is the players leave and squad keeps changing. Amazing thing is that, yet, they're consistent.
All in all, I'm in favour of giving a shot to Marcelo Gallardo at Barcelona in December, given Ernesto Valverde's horrible legacy. At least, Marcelo is flexible and has a philosophy to work upon. I'm convinced now he can do wonders here. Or else, Erik is always there in 2020.
