The factory produced biscuits and sweets. It was a huge one that churned out tonnes of biscuits and sweets weekly.

Bob and Mike worked there. They were forklifter and line manager respectively.

The pay was not good enough but enough to get by monthly.
The job was hectic. Driving a forklift was no mean feat. Moving and loading delivery trucks all day long. If they were on night shift, they barely slept as the plant ran 24hours.

But there was no alternative at least for now.
Bob lived in a one bedroom apartment. It was fairly large and he demarcated the room into kitchen and bedroom.

The room had two doors, one entrance and one exit. The exit led into the kitchen from the outside.

They all told him sorry and went away.

It was his off day and Bob was home. His buddy Kunle came around and they were playing PS2 around 7pm when NEPA took light.

Then Bob went to the kitchen and put on the gen.
u2018Ah. Why is the gen in the kitchen?u2019 Kunle asked.

They have started stealing generators. Donu2019t worry, the exhaust is facing the door. We will be fineu2019 Bob replied.

u2018No. This is very dangerous. It can kill. They call it carbon monoxide poisoningu2019 Kunle advised.
In less than 5 minutes, NEPA brought the light.

Bob put off the gen and they continued playing.

By 9pm, Kunle bade him goodbye and left.

15 minutes later, the light went off again.

u2018Well itu2019s just meu2019 he told himself.
He put on the generator which he had kept in the kitchen.

He planned to put it off after about 30 minutes but the decided to allow his phone charge a bit before he put it off.

He didnu2019t forget to face the exhaust towards the kitchen door.

Then he slept.
Bob was visibly absent at work.

His line manager Mike called but he didnu2019t return the calls.

u2018Maybe he is not feeling too fineu2019 he thought.

It was close of duty and no one had heard from him.

u2018I should visit him if he does not come to work tomorrowu2019 he told himself l

They broke the door, opened it and gasped.
He lay sprawled out on the floor with his phone beside him plugged to the socket beside him.

The bed was not made and a bowl of fruits was close to the television set .

u2018Bob! Bob!u2019 Mike called out.

No response.

He called again.

Mike went closer and tapped Bob but pulled back.

Mike put two and two and figured out what had happened to Bob.
Dear readers on the timeline, on no condition should you ever RUN A GENERATOR IN A POORLY VENTILATED PLACE or SPACE.

This is very dangerous as generator sets produce carbon mono oxide which kills very quietly.

It is called Carbon monoxide poisoning.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas produced by burning gasoline, charcoal or other fuel. Improperly ventilated appliances and engines, particularly in a tightly sealed or enclosed space, may allow carbon monoxide to accumulate to dangerous levels
Carbon monoxide poisoning occurs when carbon monoxide builds up in your bloodstream. When too much carbon monoxide is in the air, your body replaces the oxygen in your red blood cells with carbon monoxide. This can lead to serious tissue damage, or even death.
Some Signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning may include:

Dull headache
Weakness
Dizziness
Nausea or vomiting
Shortness of breath
Confusion
Carbon monoxide poisoning can be particularly dangerous for people who ARE SLEEPING OR INTOXICATED

. People may have irreversible brain damage or even die before anyone realizes there& #39;s a problem.

Prevention is better than cure.

Stay safe.
