Meant to post this the other day, but here are some HALLOWEEN '18 thoughts, one year later. https://twitter.com/brettgallman/status/1190074188452769793
First of all: I still really like it. It gets more right than it gets wrong, especially in terms of pure aesthetics. Carpenter's score is sublime, and Michael's suburban massacre is awesome.
That said, still not a fan of having Myers incarcerated for 40 years, then escaping. Wish the story had been that he simply vanished from Haddonfield in '78 and wasn't seen again.
To me, that is much more in keeping with what Carpenter envisioned for Myers: an inexplicable phantom that defies explanation.
Ultimately, this is what David Gordon Green & Danny McBride believe too because the entire story with Sartain, the podcasters, & even Laurie involves characters learning that Myers can't be reckoned with.
So why make him seem mortal, right down to making him an old man with a bald spot? Lose all of that, & the movie is leaner, too. Not to mention the original film's ending retains its power this way. Kind of lame to think Myers was simply apprehended after vanishing from the lawn.
