1. Honestly guys, Nigerian needs a total mindset refit. Sometimes last week I was in a discussion with someone from a low income group & he was complaining about how expensive rice was. I asked him how many bags of rice he buys in a year. He said at least 7 bags.
2. I did a mental calculation. The increase in price of rice of N4K per bag will take him down N28k in a year. Quite significant. For someone like me, who barely goes through 2 bags in a year the increase takes me down just N8k a year. I can spread such an increase a bit easier/3
3. The real issue however is in the volume of rice this chap whose salary is like 50k a month & his family consume. I asked him and he boastfully said that his children prefer rice. In fact he said his daughter who is about 14 years does not eat "swallow" at all. That she likes..
4. 'medenmeden' Those were his words. He said it with such pride. That his daughter does not eat swallow at all. Do you guys see why the poor people are screaming about rice? They now equate rice with social "class". Rice is now a status thing. May God save Nigeria from idiocy/5
5. I have asked him if he would allow his daughter to come stay with me for one month. The girl needs a brain reset. There will be no rice in the household for the period of one month and if she does not eat all the other foods then she will grow hungry. 7 bags of rice a year?
6. This is the problem we have. The rich start some idiotic hype, then the poor will imitate them & society dies a little more. The rich rent event centres for millions, the poor rent their own to. Engagement (traditional wedding) now makes no sense at all for both rich & poor/7
7. You get no feel whatsoever of the meaning of the ceremony. All you see is a fashion show. Values lost in the ephemeral and the inane. Slowly our values are becoming extinct and we all watch while this continues. Suya used to be our unifying snack for both rich & poor/8
8. Now Suya is not sold in every side corner again. Suya & Akara have not been elevated to burger status in our fast food chains. We need a refit really. There is just too much hype that is killing our economy. Think on this dear Nigerians. Just your regular Twitter Mummy again😂
