i would just like to start this thread off with the fact that kumander liwayway (commander dawn in english) used to lead her troops in battle with a face full of makeup and her nails did. she was the baddest bitch in the damn battlefield and she knew it.

bright red lipstick. hair done up. the whole deal. and this wasnt like a gimmick or whatever. before ww2 affected the philippines, she was the town mayor's daughter and she entered and WON a lot of beauty contests in the area

she believed that her feminity shouldnt have been looked down on in the field where masculinity was the standard. she fought for her place at the table by climbing up the ranks, being a nurse before she was given a small batallion to lead; and eventually leading major squadrons

the other generals & commanders couldnt deny that she had a talent for leading. in ww2, kumander liwayway was a part of the hukbalahap (hukbo ng bayan laban sa hapon) and was a significant player for the rebellion against the japanese, yet she is severely overlooked

even after the war she was still hardcore as shit. the PH gov't got extremely corrupt after the war and she was part of the huk revolt, a rebellion against the gov't at the time. she got caught up multiple times bc of snakes and one of the times she was caught they killed her boo

she used her boo's death and her identity as his wife to her advantage. she pleaded to the gov't that her husband made her join the rebellion and she wanted no part of it. they let her go and she lowkey ran a bunch of the behind the scenes until it blew over eventually.

she knew how to play the game and knew where she wouldnt compromise or settle for any less. she also didnt see her feminity as a weakness, but as one of her many strengths and she really was that bitch until she died from old age. wow
