It’s a rom-com about the year between their first blind date and their wedding set in 1984-1985. He’s a divorcee with a 10yo son, she’s a small town single girl who drives a Firebird. https://twitter.com/RyanHoulihan/status/1186829513403129856
Two parallel lives, towns 5 miles apart. She has her own apartment, decorates cakes for fun. He’s in a low place after a divorce, with partial custody of his kid. Her cousin and his buddy from work are dating and set them up.
First date: Her birthday. He’s super sick. And has 10yo Brian for the weekend. Goes anyway, picking her up before dropping his kid at the babysitters. Son graciously offers to let her pick an 8 track to listen to. Miraculously gets a second date.
On another date, she makes him dinner. Her apartment has cable, he sees MTV for the first time. She makes homemade fried chicken he still talks about 30 years later.
Sometime later: she invites him to a small dinner to meet her parents. When he gets there, the driveway is full of cars. Her mom has invited the whole family.
If I remember right, he doesn’t exactly propose, instead at some point she flat out asks him, “we are getting married, right?”
At their wedding, the couple that set them up stand up with them. Her mom makes her dress. He nearly passes out from nerves at the ceremony. They drive away in a horse-drawn surrey with fringe on top. Their photo is in the paper. It’s adorable.
