Traditional design planning requires leaders to imagine how work would be conducted in their new space. healthcare delivery is so complex that despite exhaustive planning it is impossible for teams to accurately predict the complex interactions of people with their environment.
Simulation provides the vehicle to conduct patient safety and system integration testing. Here teams ACTIVELY interact with their new environment providing a shared experience where teams witness care delivery.
This is more effective in identifying safety threats, process or workflow inefficiencies because simulation makes the shift from work as imagined to work as done
