In 2013, the Daily Mail wrote that a photographer captured a #friendship between a #bear and a #wolf. It tends to recirculate (most recently on #Reddit). I just saw it and... I have questions! I'm seeing different wolves and can't believe no one else noticed
In the photos provided by the photographer to the Mail, there appear to be different wolves. The photographer claims the interaction between wolf/bear took place over 10 days, so I can't imagine seasonal coat changes being a factor here. Article is https://dailym.ai/2oBmY79 .
This guy has completely different facial markings. Enough said. I could go on.
One wolf is light tan with a small white/black saddle marking
Another wolf is lighter, similarly tan but lacks the prominent saddle marking of the first and looks a little on the wispy side.
The Mail wrote the captions as if they were all the same wolf. Maybe that was a mistake but I also don't know why a photographer would include diff wolves unless it was to advertise
I'm not 100% saying a "friendship" didn't occur like it was claimed. But since (most) of these photos could be taken out of context and are ones that (perhaps) show different wolves, I'd wager it didn't happen, at least not in the way that it was claimed.
I get it's the Mail but I've never really been a fan of "articles" (?) that exaggerate on one hand and simplify on the other some aspects of complex relationships between animals.
It bothers me to no end when these relationships are made "cute" for our own entertainment esp when they are (likely) inaccurate and perpetuate misinformation AND it bothers me when no one notices.
