History of the first ARMY Independence Day (October 14, 2018)

~a thread~

No matter what your position is on BTS’ relationship to the kp0p industry, it’s good to have some context for why ppl are wanting to celebrate Army Independence Day again this year. This thread covers the events that took place Oct. 13-15, 2018. 🥳
According to my research, nobody is 100% positive about how things started going down. The rumor is it all began with a post from a few days before, but we’ve all seen many posts like this.
On Oct. 13th comes the first of three main hashtags related to these events:

#/ARMYsRuinedKpopParty

As you might expect, there was a lot of confusion about the origin of the tag.
Most ARMY were convinced it was started by antis and taken over by ARMY since we took over the tag and trended it.
Multis and others were just straight up confused about the intent behind the tag. 😅
So why would ARMY trend what looks like something supposed to be a hate tag? Some ARMY were proud of the sentiments in the tag but also it came at a time when we really needed a reason to laugh. And above all else, ARMY loves a reason to party. So party we did. 😆
This went on for at least two days! ARMY was UNbothered.
There were intellectuals at the party. 🧐
and of course, the multitaskers made sure we didn’t let the tag go to waste 👍
ARMY was having so much fun, and honestly we needed it. 🥺
But ARMYs were starting to notice after looking into it more that it wasn’t antis who started the tag. Yes, ARMY started the #/ARMYsRuinedKpopParty tag. Sorry not sorry.

What we didn’t know is that we were about to get “kicked out of kp0p”. 🤭
On Oct. 14th, 2018 the decree went out from the Organization of United Kpoppers (OKU). And thus was set into motion ARMYs expulsion from the kp0p community.
I’m not kidding. These kpoppers were serious.
Not all ARMY took this news the same way, but many decided it was an opportunity to finally be liberated from the kp0p community and so the second tag related to these events was born to celebrate our newfound freedom:

#/ArmyIndependenceDay

Plus, we wanted to party some more.
And yes, we did wonder what the guys would think when they got online and saw us absolutely wilding under these tags, both of which trended. 😬😅
Keep in mind this is peak ARMY behavior. We now had an entire nation to create: One nation, under President Namjoon. Some ARMY got to work drafting our constitution, others began polling for our national anthem (which is still undecided and will need a new vote).
Our flag design was quickly decided, as was the residence of the President, The Purple House. There were debates for designating our national flower (Smeraldo), our national animal (Yeontan), our national food (I think it was churros?) and designs under review for our currency.
Of course, ARMY was devastated at being expelled from the kp0p community, but we had no choice but to put on a brave face and carry on.
To no one’s surprise, while ARMY was focused on coming together to lay the foundation of our great new nation, the kp0p community was also focused: on ARMY. And so we have the last of the three hashtags, the only one that failed to trend:

#/KpopCommunity1stWin
It was under this tag that the kp0p community shared their feelings about ARMY Independence Day.
In the end, the whole event was a microcosm of a regular day on this app: ARMY mostly minding our own business and having fun, laughing and supporting BTS while the kp0p community stays more focused on us then on their faves and keeps inserting themselves in negative ways.
TLDR; the kp0p community expelled ARMY and while ARMY peacefully celebrated our freedom with ARMY Independence Day, the kp0p community wouldn’t keep us out of their mouths even though they kicked us out in the first place.
Now you know the history.

So if ppl do decide to celebrate ARMY Independence Day this year, or any other year, remember it’s about celebrating our unique ARMY identity. And that doesn’t involve anyone except us and @BTS_twt. 💜
