I've started watching Outlander! Good Lord! I did NOT know what I was missing!! S1 Ep7, "The Wedding" COMPLETELY lives up to the hype and then some.
I just started S1, Ep 14. These two cannot catch a break! I have a feeling it'll get worse before it gets better.
So now I'm up to S1, Ep 15. I've heard tales that things are pretty bad for Jamie in this episode. I don't know if I can bear it!
Since only Seasons 1 and 2 are on Netflix, I have a strong feeling that the Starz add-on to Amazon Prime is in my future.
So those last two episodes of Season 1 are rough. I'm gonna need a bit of a break. In Season 2, I'm also gonna need more of this:
Season 2. Jeez! My man just cannot catch a break!
S2, Ep. 12.

I would describe Fergus as 1 part manservant, 1 part bodyguard, and 3 parts foster child. Thoughts?
Season 3 beckons, and the Starz add-on to Amazon Prime is now a part of my life. What can I say?
Season 3, Episode 8: TWIST!!! But, not really. I knew this was coming way back in Season 1.
Where's the think piece on Outlander as equal parts science fiction, romantic fiction, and historical fiction? It is simultaneously all 3 individually while also being a separate genre that is a combination of the 3.
**checks notes**
I may have to write it.
Think piece #2. Season 3, Eps 7 & 8. In two scenes, we get character development and emotional depth from Jamie that we *never* got from anyone (except maybe Aria) in 8 seasons of Game of Thrones.

*Checks notes*

I may have to write that one, too.
Currently deep into S3. Words and phrases that can now be found in my inner monologue and vocabulary:

Aye.
Braw
Bairn
Sláinte Mhor.
Dinna fash.
Dinna ken.
Ye wee smout
Sassenach*

*This name is not easily given.
S4, Ep2: I don't have Starz thru my cable provider (hence the Amazon add-on). During a S4 Starz free wknd, I decided to check it out. I had questions. So many QUESTIONS! Like, "Why are they so far from Scotland?" and "Why is Catherine of Aragon there?" Now, all has been revealed!
S4, Ep. 2: Please note that, I neither need nor want S4 spoilers! That said, I've decided that if a certain 20th century lass goes back in time specifically to see a certain 18th century laird, it may be the most emotional moment I'll ever see on TV. I dinna ken I can bear it.
I fell down the rabbit hole of S4 and didn't come up for air until it was over. I haven't seen a cliffhanger like that in a long time. More on thinkpieces later. Now, #Droughtlander begins.
Think piece #3..."Travelers and Those Who Believe Them: The Role of Faith in 'Outlander'"
Scotch and Knitting season!
A bonny hat to go with my new winter coat! The hat was made with loom and red & black yarn seen in the above photo.
So I started watching it again from (almost) the beginning. This is b/c, as we all know, I have a problem. I'm up to S1, Ep15 - "Wentworth Prison". I'm not sure I can watch this again. I did fast forward though parts the first time around. Now, I may, in fact, have to turn back.
So, I knitted another hat on a bigger loom so that I could wear it to the side - as the Highlanders intended.
The combination of a new hat, scarf, and winter coat is a bonny look if I do say so myself.
Also works as a pillbox hat!
I'm finally starting to get the hang of knitting with needles. Initially, I was using 9mm needles as per the instructions. I was having a very hard time. Then I realized that I might be using the wrong needles. I switched to 8mm needles and voilà!
UPDATE: I gave up the bamboo needles for aluminum needles. So far, so good. We'll see how this all turns out!
SCENE: Outlander marathon on Starz free weekend.

MOM: What are you watching?
ME: Outlander.
MOM: Ooh! He's FINE!!!
ME: Yes! Also...KILTS!

MomLander has begun!
MomLander Cont'd - S2

MOM: Who's the king? (George II) What happened at Culloden? (A lot. But it happened quickly) What does this have to do w/ Mary, Queen of Scots? (Not much since its appx 200 years after her death). Why are they so cruel to the Scots? (In a word...Empire)
MomLander Cont'd - S3

MOM: What else can happen to these two?
ME: Just wait and see.
MOM: I really need to watch this from the beginning. I'm confused. Also, HE'S FINE!!!
It's after midnight. I'm tired. I'm also writing an essay w/ a fast-approaching deadline on a tough subject that I agreed to write b/c the work is important. I may just pour a wee dram & watch A. Malcolm for the 12th time. No subtitles. If u don't know A. Malcolm, why are u here?
On this night of Impeachment, I wrote a 1700 wd draft of an eventual 1200 wd essay. I am having Dalwhinnie 15 yr single malt w/ ice cream. Imma get out my knitting and put on S1, Ep 7, "The Wedding". I'll be damned if any of this will steal my joy!
FINALLY!!! It's Christmas!
In that spirit, perhaps I'll watch "A Princess for Christmas" instead of "The Wedding" for the umpteenth time. Sláinte Mhòr!
There's a lot happening #OnHere tonight. Also, I sent a draft of the #DifficultEssay to the editor. I'm working on remarks for a conference that may get me disinvited from for life. The joy of today's Prosecco-lunch w/ my godmother has worn off. I may need to turn on A. Malcolm.
It's been a long day and a long week. I may pour (another) wee dram, start a new knitting project, and watch "the Wedding" AND "A. Malcolm". I need to see maximum "Winne-the-Poohing Around". It's been that kind of week.
And did I stay up late the night before a long flight to California to write two proposals for the #Outlander conference at @UofGlasgow? Yes, yes I did!
It's been that kind of a day!
Season 5 of @Outlander_STARZ premieres one week from tonight!!! Get your tricorn, get your scotch, get your kilt, get your gemstone!!! This is not a drill!!!
I submitted the final draft of the #DifficultEssay today. I wish I had the energy to pour a wee dram and watch "The Wedding" and "A. Malcolm". I know if I tried, I would fall asleep before Dougal could "persuade" the priest to perform the ceremony.
ALERT!!!!! Season 5 of @Outlander_STARZ premieres in 3 DAYS!!!! Get your tricorn, get your scotch, get your kilts, get your framed posters!!!! This is not a drill!!!
While watching S5-E1 - "The Fiery Cross", I repeatedly found myself thinking, "this would be great for the paper I submitted to the Outlander conference". 🤞🏾that it gets accepted.
Och! Neither proposal was accepted. Nevertheless...
A month ago, I agreed to write a 1k word article and submit it today. Of course, I had no idea how taxing these last few days would be. I got a reprieve until tomorrow. I've pulled out the big guns of inspiration. He's saying "Aye, lass. I ken you can do this!"
If you'd like to use some Quarantine Time for an @Outlander_STARZ mini-marathon, may I suggest "Jamie's Greatest Moments" as the theme w/ these selections:

S1, E7 - "The Wedding"
S1, E9 - "The Reckoning"
S3, E1 - "The Battle Joined"
S3, E6 - "A. Malcolm"

You're welcome!
Bonus Feature: "A Princess for Christmas"

It's the very best Hallmark Channel Princess movie for a reason!
Re: Above.

Aye, that's it. That's the tweet. When you watch S5, E6, you'll know why.
The gif is the tweet...ya wee smout!
*Revision in the text!*
Please add S5,E7 "The Ballad of Roger Mac" to your "Jamie's Greatest Hits" Outlander mini-marathon.

I just finished S5, Ep 8, "Famous Last Words".
Och, Sassenach, that was A LOT!!!!
I'll probably need to watch it again during the week. This time with a wee dram to calm my nerves.
I'm not giving anything away about the events of last night's ep by saying that a most welcome and long overdue surprise was hearing Maria Doyle Kennedy sing!
High Drama this week. Had me on the edge of my seat!
(This gif doesn't match the tweet, but does that really matter?)
Ian telling Fergus, "I ken ye can." is the best line in the history of this show. Maybe all the shows.
Yes, I was screaming when Jocasta was in peril last week. I ken it was something like, "Get the bell, Jocasta! Get the bell! [She gets the bell.] Och! Ulysses is coming for ye now, ye wee smout! Ye didna stand a chance!"
How am I just finding out that *this* week was the penultimate episode because S5 is only 12 episodes? #Droughtlander will begin sooner that I expected. I didna ken I can bear it!
So, the season finale was a lot. Not "Wentworth Prison" a lot, but pretty damn close. And now #Droughtlander begins anew.
Also, Post-Living with the Mohawk Ian Murray is going on the list of "Fictional Characters I'd Want To Come Get Me If I Was Ever *Really* In Trouble".
On Sunday, I said that "Never My Love" as a lot but didn't quite reach the level of "Wentworth Prison" a lot. I stand by that and here's why.
The violence in "Wentworth Prison" lasted the better part of 2 episodes. It was intentionally both sexual and psychological. Also, the entire first season was building to that two-part season finale.
It starts at the very beginning, S1E2 - "Castle Leoch", when Claire sets Jaime's dislocated shoulder and we see his back for the first time. It continues to build when we he tells her about being flogged the first time while being tied up in the archway at Lallybroch.
It continues to build in S1E12 - "Lallybroch" when Jaime tells Claire how he came to be flogged the second time at Fort William and we begin to see the depths of Black Jack Randall's depravity.
What we saw in "Never My Love" didn't have nearly the same level of buildup. And what we did see lasted about a quarter of an episode.
For these reasons, "Never My Love" was A Lot, but didn't reach the level of "Wentworth Prison" A Lot. Thank you for coming to my OutlanderTEDTalk.

I will not be taking questions at this time.
Did you really believe that last sentence?!?!?!?!

OF COURSE, I will be taking questions!!!!
Definitely. https://twitter.com/DebsterPA1/status/1261743678932037633?s=20
