This Audi driver decided it would be fine to mount pavement on Slade Lane, park, visit shop (note empty road) then drive towards myself & another person at bus stop when leaving @bevcraig @CllrAzraAli @ben_clay @GMPLevsBurnage he didn’t like it when we refused to move. Please help
Driver got out. I asked him why was he driving at us on pavement & why hadn’t he parked on the road? His response: “I’m allowed to park here, the road is not for parking on, it’s for driving” he then sped off at speed. This is why we need safer walking & cycling infrastructure
Also pls look at t’condition of our pavement & then look at the recently resurfaced road - something is very out of kilter in our public realm - everything is setup for the motorist to dominate &bully. Even law abiding motorists are condoning this behaviour by turning a blind eye
Under 2 hours later after I left by bus, exact same issue just with a different motorist now. Where one goes many follow - unless our infrastructure, laws and enforcement prevent it in first place.
Next day, same issue, different motorist - where one goes, many follow. If you were in your driving test & the examiner said: please park beside the shop would you ignore the empty road space beside kerb & mount the pavement fully? No? I didn’t think so - so why is this allowed?
Today - same issue - diff motorists. Ample road space with no restrictions to park on & they still choose to mount the pavement and park - and we wonder why the pavement is in an absolute state? I’m going to continue this thread and copy in my Councillors until something is done
Another day - another motorist who is too special to park on the road on Slade Lane choosing the pavement instead, #Burnage M19. Where one goes many follow. Besides the continued damage this does to the pavement it involves cars driving towards people waiting at the bus stop. 🤷🏻‍♂️
This was from last Friday morning on Slade Lane #Burnage look at all that free road space to park on - nope pavement parking is still preferred. Where one goes many follow @Afzal4Gorton please help us pavement users from the continued threat of being driven at or obstructed
More of the same last night in the rain - just a different motorist following suit and parking fully on pavement. Councillors? Police? Anybody?
So this black car did what many others do - mount pavement on Slade Lane fully to park when there’s plenty of road space available. Then in order to leave reverses back over pavement into junction. How did this motorist pass their driving test? @ben_clay @CllrAzraAli @bevcraig
Another day and another pic to add to the chain/thread of persistent pavement driving and pavement parking and obstruction on Slade Lane near junction Monica Grove. Will anyone do anything to enforce the law? Or is it left to residents to deal with once again?
From this morning. What would be the equivalent of the ‘broken windows theory’ but for pavement-parked-cars? As it certainly seems to attract many other motorists to follow suit. Look at all that road space. #TheChain
5 weeks on and this chain of tweets continues. Same problem but different motorist/car - what will it take to get some bollards or obstructions to prevent pavement-driving/parking/damage? Councillors? Police? Anybody?
All these photos are taken when I happen to be passing to and from work - so are only the tip of the iceberg of pavement drivers/parkers/idiots - this Twitter chain continues - for how long? Who knows?
Again last night as passing on my return from work. The pavement continues to crumble and break-up; and we wonder why? @Chris_Boardman a thread of pavement parking/driving/obstructing in just one place in S.Mcr - Slade Lane, Burnage
Just why? A completely clear road with no restrictions & still this motorist has felt entitled enough to drive onto the pavement & park fully on the pavement. Where does this sense of entitlement come from? Can we have some timber bollards please? @ben_clay @bevcraig @CllrAzraAli
Daily occurrence - twitter thread continues - pavement parking & driving - just why is it allowed? - do our local councillors or police officers pass this spot on Slade Lane #Burnage at all? @ben_clay @bevcraig @CllrAzraAli @GMPLevsBurnage
Another day and another motorist who thinks it’s perfectly fine to mount the pavement, drive along pavement, park fully on pavement for their own convenience and screw everyone else. @bevcraig I’m not sure your message to businesses worked. @ben_clay @CllrAzraAli @GMPLevsBurnage
From @naturallycyclin this morning - now imagine that silver SUV driving towards you whilst you’re waiting for the bus, what would you do? this is exactly what happened to me 8 weeks ago with diff motorist & this thread. Because reporting it is doing nothing. Note the empty road
Because the sight of a car on a pavement doesn’t seem to raise an eyebrow these days - let’s take a look at the state of the pavement which will certainly require immediate repair at public expense and is being further degraded by cars mounting pavement. #ForTheManyNotForTheFew
New year, same old problem. Plenty of road space to park a car on, nope? pavement parking it is again then. #SladeLane #Burnage
Sadly allowing pavement parking to persist means it spreads - like here on Slade Lane now on opposite side of the road this afternoon. This car was parked here as there were already two pavement parked cars outside the shop 🤷🏻‍♂️
Guess who’s back, back again... because parking on the road is too much for some. But seriously what is gained by doing this? The kerbside has no parking limitations and is an extra metre away? Meanwhile the pavement continues to be damaged #SladeLane
4 months on - yesterday watched this VW Polo drive off the pavement at pace rejoining the road it should have never left in the first place #SladeLane #Burnage #pavementparking https://twitter.com/citycyclists/status/1228619234831409152?s=21
Pavement parking spreading like a virus since 1965 - more driving on the pavement on Slade Lane and adjacent avenue like it’s no-ones business #CarOwnerVirus
Every day another motorist who thinks the road is not enough for them - our off-license/convenience store is seemingly a drive-thru now. Nothing to see here. Sadly these everyday hazards will be pushed even more into the background at the moment #CarOwnerVirus
