At the Rosh Hashanah services I attended the rabbi discussed the need to be grateful for things epic and minuscule, whether they come from humanity or from nature.

It's a good idea.

So once a day through the end of 5780 I will share something I am grateful for.
Tonight I am grateful for a simple pleasure: Curling up with a good book.
Today I am grateful for shul regulars everywhere.

To the ones like @yehudi_eyif who bring the laughter of children to shul, to the ones who have helped me and countless others say kaddish, and to all the ones who keep their communities going. https://twitter.com/yehudi_eyif/status/1181026333104586753?s=19
On the laughter of children in shul, I think of this piece from Rabbi Benyamin Goldschmidt every time I see kids running around in shul.

“Don’t you dare shush the child! I waited for 70 years for children to once again make noise in shul.” https://mishpacha.com/silent-no-more-the-choral-synagogue-of-moscow/
Today I am grateful for the Twitter shul regulars, led by Rabbi @RutiRegan, under the hashtag #ParshaChat who provide an online community to explore Judaism and Jewish text every week in ways that consistently challenge and nurture a relationship with the best of our traditions.
Last week was the first time that on U.S. soil I had to walk past armed men on the street, at the entrance, and inside the synagogue to observe Rosh Hashanah. A reminder of how our safety has eroded.

A reminder I am grateful for: The Jews still have friends. Thanks, @gnuseibeh
Today I am grateful to have spotted Walter White in the wild.
Today I am grateful for Sukkot, an underappreciated Jewish holiday which involves tricking Jews into camping.

It's one of the most amusing holidays to explain let alone observe, but it's all worth it with good company.
Today I am grateful for ancient Chinese farmers for domesticating a fungus that makes so many foods so delicious.

(Koji meats coming to your Twitter feed in the near future)
Today I am grateful for the @ASPCA for the wonderful work they do for animals and for allowing me to bring these two goobers home.
Tomorrow when I go to my neighborhood kosher market, as I do every week, I still expect to find it packed with Jews.

Because no matter the awful circumstances Shabbos is still coming and Jews are still planning their next meal.

And for my stiff necked people I am grateful.
Today I am grateful for communities that demonstrate that inclusion is more than lip service (pardon the pun) https://twitter.com/NPR/status/1210282664407764993?s=19
Today I am grateful for good public policy. New York is banning the highly predatory practice of renters being forced to pay broker's fees, which I have personally paid to the tune of 15% of annual rent. https://nyti.ms/373SDhq
Today I am grateful for the youth, especially the Arizona teen who ripped a Nazi flag out of a Nazi's hands. https://twitter.com/JewishWonk/status/1236028936460677120?s=19
Today I am grateful for the healthcare workers from across America who went above and beyond what anyone could reasonably ask of them when they came to New York to help those impacted by COVID-19. https://twitter.com/sam_vinograd/status/1245739778043269126?s=19
Today I am grateful for my friends @stephyisraelson and @Rosenbach_Ben who celebrate their wedding anniversary in a way that brings a smile to my face, and I hope will bring one to yours.
It's been a while since I added to this partly because [waves at world] but just want to say I am grateful for medical staff during this pandemic, racial justice marchers fighting for a better world, my health, & loved ones who have been doing incredible things during all of this
Today I am grateful New York recorded no deaths on this day due to COVID.

Thank God and every soul that made this tiny sliver of good news possible. https://twitter.com/MarkLevineNYC/status/1282477722644754433?s=19
Today I am grateful for the research being done to understand how best to end the most extreme poverty. May we see a future where what we learn is applied broadly to help those most in need. https://twitter.com/newscientist/status/1297420395423895552?s=20
Today I am grateful that diseases that ravage humanity are being eradicated. May COVID enjoy the same fate. https://twitter.com/AFPAfrica/status/1298230884362067968?s=20
Today I am grateful that my neighbors are choosing to see each other as neighbors and human beings and not as threats.

Today I am grateful for the things accomplished in science that fill me with wonder. We may have found evidence of life on Venus. https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1305522434465038337?s=20
Tonight is the last night of 5780. This will be the last post in the thread.

It's been a hard year. I didn't quite achieve the mission of the thread every day. But I am grateful for the days I did.

To a better 5781 for all.
