Unbeknownst to him or anyone else for that matter, Denki's quirk is extremely hazardous to his fragile brain. Each time he uses it, he damages part of it.

He never understood why studying seemed to get harder. Didn't get why he kept forgetting things that were supposed to be
basic according to everyone else.

His friends were quick to tease him for being such a ditz, his teachers getting on him for not trying hard enough.

He thought that maybe if he wasn't good at being a student, he'd at least train hard to be the best hero he could be.
He spent countless hours learning the ins and outs of his quirk. Giving his all every single day.

His effort, despite people constantly riding him, is what attracted Hitoshi to him in the first place.
Soon the purple haired boy was spending all his free time with him, until eventually, Denki asked him out.

It was great, everything was going perfect until suddenly it wasn't.
It started small.

Denki who was always forgetful seemed to be forgetting even important things. Events they had marked their calendars for, things like that.

One day it got worse.

Denki suddenly didn't recognize Hitoshi.
A confused sort of haze clouding his eyes while his brows furrowed when Hitoshi pulled back from a kiss.

"I'm sorry, but do I know you?"

Hitoshi thought it was a joke at first. Laughing as he leaned in to kiss his boyfriend again, only to have hands pushing him back.
"You're cute and all dude, but damn, take me out to dinner first or something."

It took Denki over an hour before things came started coming back to him.
It took him even longer to stop crying as Hitoshi held him with all he had, hoping that when he let go Denki would still remember him.
They went to Recovery Girl after that. She ran all sorts of tests, kissed him more than Hitoshi or Denki thought necessary and eventually they had an answer.
"Early Onset Alzheimer's," she had said. "It's all I can think of to explain the lapse in memories. Incredibly rare in someone so young, but I think it's safe to assume that your quirk has something to do with it."
From then on out, Denki was banned from using his quirk in any capacity. He was still allowed to be at the school, but it was clear that not being able to be a hero killed something inside of him that not even Hitoshi could revive.
Not that he didn't try.

Every spare second he had was spent trying to put a spark back in Denki's life. He took him on dates, forced him to hangout with their friends, even slept in the same bed with him most nights, holding him as he cried.
Nothing seemed to work.

To make it worse, his memory continued to deteriorate.
It got to the point where eventually, Hitoshi had to stop sleeping with him, because Denki would wake up screaming at the stranger in his bed.
In one of his clearer moments, Denki tired to break up with him but Hitoshi wasn't having it.

"I'm not good for you," the blond had pleaded. "You deserve someone who will actually know wonderful you are to them."

"You're what's good for me and that's final."
He had kissed him after that, tasting both of their tears on his lips.
It had been a rough week.

Denki had gotten by, but barely. His memory fading in and out more so than usual and he constantly seemed on the verge of tears.

It was heartbreaking to watch and Hitoshi was at a loss at what to do.
He was sitting on some couch in a common area, head in his hands as he tried not to weep when a hand gently patted his back.

"You okay bro?"

Hitoshi looked up into grey eyes and shook his head.

"Not really Tetsu."

The larger boy nodded, moving to sit next to him.
His hand was still on his back, patting him soothingly. For such a big guy he was pretty gentle.

"You know, I always thought that for every quirk, there was like a counter one."

Hitoshi grunted in response.

"Like if someone has a water based quirk, theres a fire one."
"Okay?"

"So same thing for like partners and stuff. Look at Bakugou and Kirishima. Kiri is the only one that can like nullify Baku's quirk, it's partly why they are so good together, you know?"

Hitoshi thought about it for a second, trying to see what he was getting at.
"Tet," he said, sighing. "Are you trying to say Denki and I should split because our quirks don't match up?"

The boy laughed, hitting him hard on the back.

"No idiot. I am saying that I think there's a chance for Kaminari. You just... I don't know, you guys just gotta find
the person with the right quirk to help him."

Tetsutetsu stood, raising a fist for Hitoshi to brush his knuckles against which he did.

"I gotta go, but cheer up man. It'll work out, I know it."
As he watched his friend walk away, he wish he could share in his optimistic views. But it was hard to do so when you felt so damn hopeless.

Standing himself, Hitoshi began to make his way to the hospital ward. The trip one he'd made countless times in the past few months.
As he walked, he kept thinking about Tetsutetsu and his conversation.

What if it was that simple? Finding someone with a quirk to help him?

What kind of quirk forces people to remember stuff? That sounded stupid.
Opening the door to the ward, he nodded to Recovery Girl who was sitting at her desk, scribbling down onto a notebook.

"He's not having the best of days," she said when he made eye contact with her. "Maybe you can convince him to have a better one."
He snorted.

"Yeah, okay."

It was a short walk to the small room he knew Denki would be in. When he opened the door the blonde looked at him and the sight made his breath hitch.

He looked so damned miserable. His face was blotchy and puffy from crying.
But his arms were outstretched.

He knew who he was today.

Quickly he crossed the room, pulling Denki into his arms as he sat down next to him. Immediately his boyfriend started to cry.
"Shh, baby. Shh." Hitoshi said, squeezing him before turning his head to press his lips to Denki's forehead. "Don't cry."

"I just want it to stop. I just want to go back to being me again."

Moving back, Hitoshi gripped his face in his hands, forcing Denki to look at him.
"You will always be here Denki Kaminari. And when you feel like you aren't, I will always be there to find you."

Smiling a small watery smile, he tilted his head up and Hitoshi wasted no time to press his lips against his.
As he kissed him, he wished there was a way to make him better. Even for such a second.

/Convince him/ Recovery Girl had said.

And with nothing else to lose, he figured why not.
Pulling back, Hitoshi made eye contact with the smaller boy.

"Hey, I want to try something."

"Try what?"

"...I want to use my quirk on you."

The blond grinned, almost like he used to. "Ooo, kinky~" he said laughing.
Hitoshi laughed too, hitting him lightly on the arm.

"Seriously, can I?"

Denki shrugged.

"You gotta answer me for it to work, remember?"

"Oh ye-"

He froze, words stuck in his throat as Hitoshi's quirk took over.
As he stared at Denki's glazed expression, he wondered what he should make him do.

Maybe make him laugh? No, that would just be weird.

Maybe he could tell him to do something that would make him happy?
Shit no, what if he tried to use his quirk?

Quirks.
Hitoshi replayed the conversation in his head that he had with Tetsutetsu earlier.

He doubted that he'd be able to really help, but how could he call himself a hero or a boyfriend if he never even tried?
"Denki," he said, straining as he put his all into his command. "I want you to remember everything from the last six months in perfect clarity. Do it now."
The blond suddenly screamed, his body thrown back as he twitched and writhed on the bed.

Hitoshi jumped up, grabbing at Denki's flailing body as he yelled for Recovery Girl.
The smaller older woman burst into the room, shoving Hitoshi out of the way with a force he wouldn't have thought possible.

Almost as quickly as it started, Denki stilled. His body going limp as his screams stopped.
"Kaminari," she said, shining a penlight in his face. "Boy, can you hear me?"

Denki laid still as Recovery Girl repeated herself.

Holding back his own tears, Hitoshi stared at them in horror. Not only was he useless, he broke his boyfriend.
Suddenly a groan had Hitoshi sprinting back to his bedside.

"God, my head," Denki moaned. "That shit hurted."

Recovery Girl was forcing open his eyes, shining that light in them making him Denki wince.

"Jeez lady! You tryin' to blind me?!"
Dropping the light, she turned to look at Hitoshi.

"What did you do?"

Hitoshi bit at the inside of his cheek before answering.

"I uh... I used my quirk on him."

She stared at him for a beat, her eyes scrutinizing him.

"Well?"

"Well what?"
The woman sighed.

"What did you ask him to do?"

Before he could answer Denki was hopping out of bed, throwing his arms around Hitoshi and kissing his face like a maniac.

"Teenagers," she mumbled before walking to leave the room. "This better be consensual."
"It is!" Denki yelled out, continuing to kiss whatever part of Hitoshi his lips could reach.

And it wasn't that he didn't appreciate the attention but Hitoshi was pretty confused.

"Hold up Denki, not that I'm complaining but what's with all the PDA?"
Pulling back just so he could make eye contact, Denki cupped his face in his hands.

"How else am I supposed to repay you for everything you've done for me these last however many months?"

Hitoshi froze as his brain processed what he said.

"It worked?"

"It worked."
This time it was Hitoshi who kissed him back first.
It was still nerve wracking watching Denki using his quirk again, even if it had been weeks since he'd been allowed to use it again.
"Quit it," Denki frowned at him as he made his way over to where Hitoshi was watching from the sidelines.

"Can't help it."

Denki sighed, but kissed him until Hitoshi forgot what he was worried about in the first place.
There had been a bit of trial and error within the first couple of weeks after Hitoshi found a way to "cure" his boyfriend.

But now, they had it down pretty solid thanks to Recovery Girls help.
As they kissed, part of him was thinking back to Testutetsu who first put the idea of using his quirk on Denki in his head, but most of him was focused on his boyfriend's soft mouth, smiling at the fact that he didn't have to fear what would happen when they pulled apart.
He knew that no matter what, he'd always have a way to make Denki remember each of their kisses.
