Let’s talk about “COLTAN” “which is used in almost every electronic devices in the world. #AfricaMR

DRC contributes 80% of the world's coltan.

When refined it becomes a heat resistant powder that can hold a high electric charge. Thereby creating devices that store energy or capacitors, which are used in a vast array of electronic devices, mostly in phones, laptop etc

You currently carrying a cellphone, laptop and electrical device? There is 80% of chance it contain comgo based product in form of Tantalum or other forms. The billions electric devices that exist, we owe that technology/material to DRC #AfricaMR

Sadly DRC economy doesn’t directly benefit from such a precious material.

DRC is one of the poorest countries in the world. This is due to their lack of a stable government & their natural resources, wars and conflicts

Rwanda and Uganda at some point made over made $600 million as a result of exploitation of coltan in the Congo. Although Rwanda and Uganda possess little or no coltan. They sell this product to international companies. #AFricaMR

Coltan is processed & converted to capacitors then sold to companies such as:

Nokia, Motorola, Compaq, Alcatel, Dell, Hewlett-Packard , IBM, Lucent, Ericsson and Sony for use in a wide assortment of everyday products ranging from cell phones to computer chips and game consoles.
