The @latimes describes her assaulter as:

“Turner, a three-time All-American high school swimmer, had been found guilty of three felony counts after a two-week trial in March.”
Prosecutors requested that Turner, who withdrew from Stanford after his arrest, be given 6 years in prison

But Santa Clara Co Superior Court Judge Persky handed down a much shorter sentence, stating that a harsher penalty would have a “severe impact” on the 20-year-old
The victim’s statement was released in the media.
“I thought there’s no way this is going to trial; there were witnesses, there was dirt in my body, he ran but was caught. He’s going to settle”
“Instead, I was told he hired a powerful attorney, expert witnesses, private investigators who were going to try and find details about my personal life to use against me”
“find loopholes in my story to invalidate me & my sister, in order to show that this sexual assault was in fact a misunderstanding. That he was going to go to any length to convince the world he had simply been confused.”
“I was not only told that I was assaulted, I was told that because I couldn’t remember, I technically could not prove it was unwanted. And that distorted me, damaged me, almost broke me.”
Harris, speaking to reporters in the San Francisco Bay area said she was concerned the “victim’s voice was not heard” at the trial.

It was not respected, and she was not given dignity in the process”
Turner was facing three to 14 years in prison, but the judge gave him six months in county jail, much to the victim's dismay.
Judge Aaron Persky showed concern for Turner, a star student and champion swimmer, explaining that prison would, quote, "have a severe impact on him.
“Judge Persky is as clueless as the defendant, who seemed to accept responsibility for drinking and, quote, "sexual promiscuity," but not sexual assault.”
The defendant's father, who pleaded for leniency, said his son was already paying a steep price for “20 minutes of action."

He lamented that his son will have to register as a sex offender “never be his happy-go-lucky self"

Interesting who signed this petition against rape victims

Wait does that say Lara Bazelon?
This Lara Bazelon who supports pro rape anti victim roll backs on Obama’s protections of assault victims on college campuses? The most impacted are women of color and LGBTQ students?

And she’s a champion of social justice reform? For POC & LBTQ folks? https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/04/opinion/-title-ix-devos-democrat-feminist.html
The story Ms. Bazelon relates about a rape accusation was never hers to tell. It’s mine.
“I am the sexual assault survivor she refers to

She omitted key facts & weaponized my story such that it could be used against my fellow survivors, especially survivors of color, who would be the most harmed by Betsy DeVos’s proposed reforms.”
“Women of color experience sexual violence at disproportionate rates & have more barriers to reporting & face disbelief.

If Ms. Bazelon truly cared about racial justice in the Title IX process, she would center on survivors of color & not reduce them to a parenthetical.”
”The second accuser of my assailant to whom she refers is my friend, a woman of color; in her case, she wasn’t believed.

The trauma of sexual assault continues into the investigative process, which will worsen w/ the proposed regulations Ms. Bazelon praises as a “step forward.”
“Ms. Bazelon knows firsthand how cross-examination harms survivors, because she cross-examined me.

She saw me break down after she asked questions implying that I should have fought back harder”
“I agree that the system is broken. But it’s broken because it was built on the premise that survivors lie.

Ms. Bazelon’s rhetoric about due process only serves to worsen the problem.”
This article is whataboutism at its finest trying to confuse

“Steeped in a Judeo-Christian culture, we have always been a vengeance-driven people. I get the righteous indignation & the sense that if Turner won’t have to pay, the man who spared him should & then some.”
“We have seen this movie before and we know how it ends—badly. Normally, but not always, these crusades are led by conservative Republicans.”

Wut? 👀 Bazelon sounds like Glenn
Lara Bazelon who sides w/ Devos who worked w/ SPLC hate groups on campus assault rollbacks is

Sen Kamala Harris expressed her concerns about the president’s nominees for the federal judiciary, many hold views that outside the mainstream
Mr. Chairman, I believe strongly – and I think we’ve heard that here from our colleagues – that the public’s perception of the fairness of our system of justice will have a direct impact on whether we actually do justice.
If the American people believe when they walk into a courtroom they are not going to receive a fair hearing, receive an unbiased perspective from an officeholder of the court – in particular a judge or justice – then we cannot possibly do justice in our country.
And for that reason, I am deeply concerned that today what we are seeing is this administration’s continued commitment to reshaping our courts for generations to come with nominees that are extreme & outside the mainstream.
In just the first 2 years in this admin, the Senate has already confirmed 85 fed judges, including 2 Supreme Court justices. Today we are considering 44 more nominees to the federal courts. if confirmed, they’ll represent 1 out of 20 lifetime appointed federal judges in the US.
And it’s not the number of judges that are being confirmed that concerns me as much as the number of ‼️extreme judges ‼️that are being confirmed. Bc let’s be clear – and my colleagues
Let’s be clear – & my colleagues have mentioned – there are many that are deeply problematic. We are being asked, for ex, to consider someone who has promoted discredited science & has claimed that Planned Parenthood kills over 150k women a year. @KamalaHarris
And who when asked by this committee if Brown v. Board of Education was binding precedent answered, “I would respectfully not comment.”

@KamalaHarris
“We are being asked to consider a nominee to 6 Circuit & to District of Utah who have consistently opposed LGBTQ rights

A nominee who defended an Ohio law defining marriage as between a man & a woman, arguing gays & lesbians are not a discrete & insular minority
And let’s recall years ago, when the courts of our land were considering civil rights cases, there had been similar types of arguments made against black justices serving on the court & questioning their ability to be unbiased in considering civil rights issues before them
We are being asked to consider a nominee who has repeatedly advocated against Native American tribal sovereignty – a nominee to 9th Circuit WA who we are proceeding w/ despite the fact that both home-state senators Murray & Cantwell, have not given the blue slip approval
We are being asked to consider a nominee to the 6 Circuit who was intimately involved in the DOJ challenge to the Affordable Care Act, where the argument that was made was so outside the mainstream that Sen Alexander called it “as far-fetched as any I’ve heard” @KamalaHarris
“And we are being asked to consider a nominee to the Eastern District of Texas who called for abolishing the Department of Education & declared the Environmental Protection Agency a “job killer” & marched, also, in anti-abortion rallies.”

Lara Bazelon stumping for the pro rape Betsy Devos pac again
Lara Bazelon is very very concerned for rapists and defenders of rapists- not so much for victims:
Lara Bazelon makes the case for ‘Restorative Justice’ do not buy this sickness

She again feels for the rapist & advocates for the victim having to sit w/ rapist

Like Devos TitleXl on college campuses

Bazelon advocates for Kavanaugh
I read a piece on Lara Bazelon co-opting ‘restorative justice’

Apparently it’s not meant to shade rapists.

Perhaps, as she said a WW (is again) co-opting for her agenda (Devos, Dershowitz, Barr- google it)

She’s the loudest on this.

Fight back if it’s what you say.
