1. We can’t “save” the Earth.

Left alone without human influence, the earth will save itself.

Climate action is about saving ourselves. As sea levels rise, deforestation, severe temperatures and pollution continue - humans won’t be able to live on this planet anymore.
2. Environment is everything.

From health to wealth - Everything has an environmental component. No matter what we do, what we eat or where we work/play. It’s important to be aware and prioritize the environmental impact as one of the key considerations in decision making
3. We are all environmentalist

Knowing that forces the question:

Are we helping or hurting the environment?

Understanding our action will effect others and ourselves is key to taking action. Our actions leave a footprint globally - water and air know no borders.
3. Pro Green = Pro Black

History shows when our community taps into nature - we win.

The Haitian Revolution - Haitians had a strong relationship with the land

Enslaved Africans - escaped from the South to the North in part by knowing moss grows on the north side of trees.
4. Pro Green = Pro Black (cont)

Imagine your neighbors burning their trash your lawn and you having to breath the polluted air they created

Black and brown communities get hit with the most devestaing effects of environmental harm and usually least equipped to deal with them
5. Recycling isn’t enough

Reduce, reuse, recycle. Yes action is better than no action, but individuals being sustainable won’t tip the scale of pollution from big businesses, militaries, and governments.

We need a critical mass of change to make a noticeable difference
6. Money is power

As long as business (and gov) make their profit, they will not adopt ethical and sustainable practices. Use your dollar to shop selectively with brands and business that are in line with you’re eco values. Make demands from your government on every level
7. Create your own community

There are many innovative ways to take climate action but they all revolve around collective community. This is a fight that can’t be won without working with others #ClimateAction #ClimateMarch
Key terms:

Environmental Justice: same air and water for everybody regardless of race, class etc.

Sustainable: something made to last

Greenwashing: companies using words like organic/all natural when its not

Climate change: human influenced change in global weather patterns
There’s a lot more to learn on a journey to saving the earth. We are here for the environmental justice now.

Blessed to hear the inspirational Dr. John Francis speak. He left us with a quote that’s still ringing:

“How we treat each other will manifest in the physical environment...” ♻️🦋
