Sope au where Yoongi and Hoseok meet at a rap battle - one of them is performing while the other is watching while waiting for the dance battle to begin.

But it’s not what you think.

Because Jung Hoseok is the best rapper in the underground scene and Min Yoongi the best dancer.
Like all cliche romances, it started with a glance.

Hoseok delivered a particularly good line that got the crowd all fired up, making noise and clapping and moving. Hoseok was a cocky performer, loved to bask in the glory of the applause.

And it was there their eyes met.
Yoongi was dressed in his crew’s uniform, a lose tank top hanging off his toned figure, bleach blonde hair styled perfectly with a band to keep it off his forehead.

Hoseok’s eyes lingered and Yoongi held his gaze steadily, almost challenging him.

Hoseok was so intrigued.
Yoongi’s features were soft and almost docile but yet so sharp and mysterious, it made a thrill go down Hoseok’s spine. He felt a wave of adrenaline and finished his set on a high, his skills somehow improving tenfold.

In the end, Yoongi clapped, dark gaze piercing Hoseok.
Hoseok immediately felt a force pulling him to Yoongi. He stepped off the stage and walked in his direction. Once the two were close enough to hear each other, Yoongi smirked and leaned in.

“So, you’re j-hope?”

Hoseok smiled and nodded, leaning against the wall like Yoongi.
“And you are?”

Yoongi clicked his teeth and began to move away.

“You’re about to see why you are a fool for not knowing that.”

Yoongi winked at him and began to move to the stage. Hoseok was beyond intrigued (and maybe slightly aroused).
Yoongi stepped on stage with two other men. They were both significantly taller than him, one with black hair and incredibly handsome features and the other with brown hair and dimples. As soon as the music began playing, they moved in sync with Yoongi in the middle.
Hoseok was awestruck. He had never seen someone move with so much fluidity and rhythm. The three men seemed in perfect sync with each other and immediately owned the stage. However, the man in the middle kept staring and smirking at Hoseok, as if to challenge him.
In what seemed only a few moments but was probably more akin to fifteen minutes, the three men stepped off the stage and Yoongi made his way to Hoseok. Hoseok noticed the two other men held hands as they walked to the exit and seemed to laugh together.
“So?”

“I am most definitely a fool for not knowing your name. You are an incredible dancer.”

Yoongi nodded, crossing his arms.

“I know.” Yoongi extended his hand, “Name’s Suga by the way.”

Hoseok scoffed, “That’s not your real name though.”
Yoongi raised his eyebrow, “I’m pretty sure j-hope isn’t yours either.”

Hoseok smiled at Yoongi for a moment before taking out his phone.

“How about we learn each other’s names over dinner? Or lunch if you prefer.”
Hoseok looked confident but inside his heart was hammering against his chest and his hands shook slightly. The man was handsome and confident and Hoseok felt somewhat intimidated by that.

Yoongi stayed still for a moment before smiling and taking the phone.

“Dinner’s fine.”
Hoseok silently felt overjoyed for not being rejected. He watched Yoongi type, taking in the way the sweat dripped down his neck and the veins that ran down the backs of his hands.

“Here. I also put my address in. Make sure to pick me up at seven tomorrow.”
“What if I don’t have a car?”

“Buy one. Or rent one.” Yoongi shrugged nonchalantly, “Whatever suits you best.”

Yoongi began walking away but before he could disappear into the crowd, he looked back at Hoseok and winked.

“See ya, pretty boy.”

Hoseok was speechless.

Hoseok kept thinking about Suga for the next day. The way the boy moved his body was beyond impressive, he was an amazing dancer through and through, but his confidence and sass was what hooked Hoseok in completely.
The day went by and Hoseok made sure he was at Suga’s door at 7 o’clock sharp, dressed in his best suit and wearing his best cologne, the one that was somewhere between musky and floral. He ran his fingers through his hair one more time before ringing the bell.
Suga immediately answered the door, as if he had been waiting patiently for it to ring. He was dressed in black slacks, a button down shirt, a black polo and a black leather jacket that was semi-formal. His black hair was styled so the bang covered his forehead but not his eyes.
“You look... really good.” Hoseok started, coughing and cheeks flushing.

Suga seemed to go shy for a moment, smirk not covering up his reddened cheeks and twitching hands.

“Thank you. You look okay.” He teased weakly, his eyes taking the time to appreciate Hoseok’s form.
Yoongi put his keys in his jacket pocket. Hoseok looked down and shoved his hands in his pockets as Yoongi closed his door.

“So, I know you said the car thing but the thing is.. money’s tight lately and my car has broken down and-“

Yoongi looked at him heavy, guilty eyes.
“No, it’s okay! It was just a joke anyway. We can take my car. Jeez you should’ve told me that before. Did you take the bus? Did you walk here? It’s so cold-“

Hoseok smiled and smirked, “It’s okay, my car is down the road. I just wanted to see your reaction. You’re sweet.”
Yoongi stared at him for a second and Hoseok was a little scared Yoongi was about to turn back and cancel their date.

But the older smiled and shook his head, “You’re a dick, you know that?”

“I’ve been told a few times.”
The two walked side by side until they reached Hoseok’s car. Hoseok opened the door for Yoongi, which made the boy blush. Hoseok got in the driver’s seat.

“I made a reservation, I hope you like the restaurant I picked.”

“I’m sure it’s fine.” Yoongi lowered his head.
Hoseok noticed Yoongi’s confident demeanour had seemingly disappeared. He played with the hem of his polo anxiously and kept avoiding eye contact, choosing to look instead out of the window.

“Are you okay?” Hoseok asked.

Yoongi flashed a charming smile, “Yes, it’s just-“
“What?” Hoseok gently asked.

“I guess- it’s nothing really. How was your day?”

Hoseok looked at Yoongi suspiciously but let it slide.

“It was good. Day job ain’t as fun as rapping, but it was good.”

“What do you do?”
“I’m the editor of a magazine, I aprove stories and such. It’s tiring but pretty fun when you get to see the final result.”

“Sounds interesting,” Yoongi nodded.

“What about you?”

“Oh, I’m a dance teacher. I teach teens after school.”
“That sound super cool,” Hoseok responded excitedly, “But with your skills, you could be more.”
“I know,” Yoongi nodded, “But- I don’t know. I don’t think I would be ready for all that.”

Hoseok somehow knew and didn’t know what Yoongi was referring to. But really, a first date was no place to be criticising life choices. He should save that to at least the third one.

The date goes without a hitch. Both Hoseok and Yoongi are pleasant people who know how to talk and know how to listen, so the conversation flows naturally. They eat and drink some wine and by 11 pm, Hoseok is walking Yoongi to his door.
“So, that was nice.” Yoongi says hastily.

“It was.” Hoseok agreed. Yes, it was a nice date, Yoongi was very attractive and had a cute personality but Hoseok was afraid that there was something still missing there.

Yoongi nodded and soon they stopped by his door.
Yoongi looked down at his feet. Hoseok also looked down and counted the seconds that passed, the heartbeats that went by.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8-

“So,” Hoseok catches himself saying, “Would you want to- to do this again?”
Yoongi looked at Hoseok with a glint in his eyes and Hoseok was sure he was going to say yes.

“I’ll- I’ll think about it.” Yoongi stammered and began to unlock the door.

“Goodnight.” He said before he closed the door, leaving Hoseok staring dumbly out in the street.
All Hoseok could think was, “What the fuck?”

Hoseok and Yoongi didn’t see each other again until the next rap battle at the club.

Hoseok was leaning against the wall watching Taehyung deliver a killer verse that made the crowd cheer loudly. Jimin looked far from defeated though, a confident smirk sitting on his lips.
Sure enough, he came back strong, his lyricism almost too good to be true. Jimin wasn’t afraid to get close and personal, and even though he was smaller than Tae, his aura could be intimidating.

The two soon left the stage hand in hand, like they had been on a picnic date.
“So, hyung, who won?” Tae asked, sweat dripping from his forehead.

“Me obviously, because I am about to obliterate whoever steps on that stage.”

Hoseok emphasised his point by pulling himself from the wall and walking to the stage, confidence radiating from his eyes.
Hoseok waited for someone to walk up to the stage and a person eventually did. They were a little taller than Hoseok, only a few inches, had longish curly black hair and their eyes were covered by the cap. Hoseok could see the man was well built and looked Sure in himself.
Hoseok was liking his vibe, but when the guy finally grabbed the mic and began rapping, Hoseok was a little taken aback. He man spat pure fire, flow fast and steady. He had never seen the man before but he clearly had experience. Hoseok felt adrenaline pump through his veins.
Hoseok easily fired back and whereas the crowd got easily riled up, making all sorts of noises, the man seemed unaffected.

The two went back forth, but the new guy seemed to become a crowd favourite. They cheered loudly for him and were more responsive to his verses.
The battle soon ended. Hoseok didn’t like losing, but he did so gracefully.

The two stepped off the stage, and Hoseok made sure to not lose the guy’s trail.

“Hey!” Hoseok called out.

The man looked back, cap now off. Hoseok noticed how his eyes gleamed under the dim lights.
“Hey, what’s your name? You’re really good by the way.”

The man smiled cutely and looked at Hoseok up and down.

“If you give me your phone, maybe you’ll find out.”

And he winked. He fucking winked.

Hoseok never had given his phone to someone so quickly.
The guy typed for a seconds and gave his phone back to Hoseok.

“Text me whenever. You’re pretty hot.”

And with that, the guy left.

Hoseok looked back at his phone.

Jungkook. His name is Jungkook.
Hoseok looked up and saw a familiar face in familiar clothing.

Yoongi’s face was still but Hoseok could see in his eyes that he was sad. Most definitely angry.

Hoseok guessed the older had probably seen the whole exchange.

He felt guilt begin to swirl in his stomach.
