Short thread on "Political Lesbians".

I've had some questions about this so I'm just going to take a few minutes to explain what it's all about.
Political lesbianism first surfaced during the 2nd wave feminist (rad fem) movement in the 60's.

They believe that sexual orientation is a political & feminist choice. That u should CHOOSE to be a lesbian as a fuck you to men & NOT because they are actually attracted to women.
Quote Ti-Grace Atkinson: "Feminism is the theory; lesbianism is the practice."

Political lesbians still exist today & they're still out there centering men in literally everything they do. They aren't advocating 4 women as much as they r hating on men. There's no feminism to it.
The movement in the 60's combined with the rad fem movement wasn't ineffective, not because political lesbianism was in any way effective, but because it was tied to the rad fem movement which did actually make advances for women. 2nd wave feminism is over, we've moved on, but...
political lesbians haven't moved with the times AT ALL. Most political lesbians are transphobic, biphobic and play on the terf team. They were always this way, since the 60's. They've even targeted cis lesbians to push them out of spaces for not being "political" enough.
When I say not political enough I mean that most of us don't hate men and those of us who are actual feminists are intersectional. We know that feminism should include men because they also benefit from feminism.

Political lesbians HATE men. They're mired in that hate.
So, in a nutshell folks:

Political lesbians only date women as a fuck you to men.
They don't date women because they actually like women.
They believe sexuality is a choice & women should choose to be with women to punish those evil menses.

Sounds super loving right?
A personal note, I wouldn't date a political lesbian if my life depended on it. Why would any lesbian ever want 2 b with a woman who isn't really interested in her other than to give the middle finger to men? Loveless relationship. Imagine the sex? How fucking bad would that be?
FYI: When 2nd wave feminism was at it's peak, there was still a LOT of reasons 4 feminists 2 feel strongly (& negatively) towards men. 2nd wave feminism achieved good things. Times have moved on, we have advanced & so has feminism. The PL's are stuck in that mentality by choice.
We've come a long way since 2nd wave feminism was relevant. Make no mistake, we still need feminism but because we've made advances, the kind of feminism we need now has evolved.

PL's are who they are out of choice not necessity. That needs to be crystal clear in every1's mind.
One last point:

All lesbians are political in the sense that we exist in a time when we are constantly having to fight to maintain our rights.

"Political lesbians" are lesbians because they choose 2 b with women as a fuck you to men and NOT because they are attracted to women.
Oh & I support bisexuals. Yes, I'm one of THOSE lesbians, the kind who isn't biphobic so if there are any folks tempted to comment biphobia...I really wouldn't if I were you.

Same goes for transphobes.

Seriously, don't bother. I'll just block you and never think about u again.
You can't drag a political lesbian out the 60's mindset. The most you can do is make them see that they're not actually "lesbians" because lesbian means woman who LOVES & is ATTRACTED TO other women. Basically, make them admit they're straight & stop appropriating lesbianism.
"But some political lesbians are attracted to women"

Then they're not political lesbians in the first place people.

They're just misguided bigoted assholes who use their own sexuality to hurt their own community, all women and feminism as a whole.
Political lesbians are literally feeding into homophobia with this crap.

"You're just doing it for attention!"

"You're doing it to make a point!"

"You're only pretending to be a lesbian because you hate men!"

Get it?

If being gay is choice, then so is being straight.
Acknowledging asexual lesbians here. I know this thread is written with political lesbians (sexual based lesbianism) in mind.

Inclusive asexuals had their own movement to separate themselves from this kind of movement that attempted to detract from "political celibacy".
