Thread on learning to appreciate what you have.

Dear Millinnials;

1- The year is 1979. President Jimmy Carter's approval rating has plummeted into the low 30s. Why, you may ask...?
2- 66 Americans were taken hostage by Iran in late 1979, launching a crises that would last 444 days.

8 American soldiers would be killed in a failed rescue attempt the following year.

The crises was not be resolved until Ronald Reagan was in office.

3- The inflation rate in 1979 was in double digits, wiping out savings accounts & leading many senior citizens terrified their fixed income pensions + social security would not be enough.
4- The country was still reeling, 5 years later, from the Watergate scandal. Unlike the Russia hoax, this scandal was real. Read more about Watergate here...👇 https://twitter.com/ITGuy1959/status/1135663625568497666
5- The national speed limit was 55 mph. Why? To save gas.

Thermostats were 65-68 degrees in the winter. Why? To save energy.

In 1977 Jimmy Carter sat by a fireplace & told us this was the only way to not be dependent on Mideast oil.
6- 1979 also brought yet another "energy crises" that plagued the country throughout the 70s. This one was precipitated by the Iranian revolution.

7- So when your President says "We have tremendous amounts of oil in our country. We're independent of everybody now" ... This is a pretty big deal. You should appreciate this.
8- And finally, for those of you craving the Green New Deal, be careful what you wish for.
