THREAD: #TheFamily in Australia

Anyone watching the Netflix series called 'The Family' would have been shocked to learn about the political influence a secret fundamentalist christian sect were able to have on American policy for over 50 years. https://www.netflix.com/au/title/80063867
Jeff Sharlet who featured in the series has deeply researched these people, and describes how their leader, Doug Coe, told people they need to “emulate” totalitarian regimes in which children kill or inform on their parents in order to build a new society. #TheFamily in Australia
While this seems a repudiation of Christian principles, those acting for God have different rules to follow than the rest of us. Doug Coe’s son and The Family’s heir apparent, David, explained what it meant to be a divinely chosen leader.

The National Prayer Breakfast is a yearly event held in Washington, D.C., usually on the first Thursday in February. The founder of this event was Abraham Vereide. The event-has taken place since 1953 and has been held at least since the 1980s at the Washington Hilton.
The National Prayer Breakfast, is typically attended by some 3,500 guests, including international invitees from over 100 countries. It is hosted by members of the United States Congress and is organized on their behalf by The Fellowship Foundation, a Christian organization.
Every U.S. president since Dwight D. Eisenhower has participated in the annual event. The Australian National Prayer Breakfast is hosted by the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship with the support of a small organising committee.
It has been occurring since 1982 and heavily borrows from US National Prayer Breakfast. Key organisers and prominent participants have had links with the Fellowship such as brothers Jock Cameron and Ross Cameron, Bruce Baird, Kevin Andrews and Kevin Rudd who visited C Street.
Prominent speakers at the National Prayer Breakfast and associated side events include Mark Scott, Major General Michael Jeffery, Cardinal George Pell and Tim Costello.
For the 2019 Australian National Prayer Breakfast people have been invited to bring their MP because of Paul’s call to “pray for all those in authority”. Leon Hribar the Canberra director for the City Bible Forum helps organise the Australian National Prayer Breakfast.
The main breakfast occurs at Old Parliament House Canberra. Before it was called the City Bible Forum, it was called ECOM, short for 'Evangelising Commerce'.

A range of networks are available in each city, to help build community, connection and support. These include; young workers networks, in-house groups, men’s networks, women’s networks, and more.
The first Sydney Prayer Breakfast was organised by the Sydney Prayer Breakfast Ltd, and took place in the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney at 7.00am on Friday, 4th June, 2010
The MC for the event, Jock Cameron introduced a group of five leaders who led the meeting in prayer for the nation, the state, the city, its people and its future generations. Those taking part included Simon Pillar, Julie Crabtree, Dr John Collier, Ewen Crouch and Scott Morrison
Given what we all now know about the influence this secretive christian sect has had on US politics for more than 5 decades, it seems appropriate to ask the question, what have they been doing here in Australia? And how long has our Prime Minister @ScottMorrisonMP been involved?

Let this sink in for a minute #auspol.

Both Australia's Prime Minister and our Governor General are involved with National Prayer Breakfasts which were first started in Washington by the secretive fundamentalist christian group known as "The Family".

This week has been one hell of an amazing journey into the history of the fellowship aka 'The Family'. It started out after watching the Netflix series and wondering how far their influence reached into Australian politics.
#TheFamily #auspol
What has been most disturbing, apart from their links to Hillsong and our current Prime Minister @ScottMorrisonMP is their history and underlying philosophy of working towards a 'god centred' theocracy over the entire world. #TheFamily #auspol
It all started with "Youth With A Mission," the organization created in the 1920s-1930s by the notorious pro-Nazi Frank Buchman. It was known during and after World War II as Moral Rearmament, National Prayer Breakfast Movement or "The Fellowship" or "The Family."
Founder Frank Buchman described his agenda in an interview with a New York newspaper, the World Telegram, published on Aug. 26, 1936 under the headline, "Hitler Or Any Fascist Leader Controlled By God Could Cure All Ills Of World, Buchman Believes" #TheFamily
Abraham Vereide, a Norwegian immigrant and Buchman apostle specializing in capturing the minds of the wealthy and the powerful. He claimed to have converted the former Nazi SS officer, Netherlands' Prince Bernhard, to Christ. #TheFamily
Vereide, and Frank Buchman together secured Dutch Royal Family sponsorship for the Prayer Breakfast movement. Col. Sir Vivian Gabriel, a British intelligence officer serving as Air Attaché with the British Embassy, who opened doors for Vereide and the others inside Washington.
The existence of a covert Hitlerite organization (called simply "The Fellowship," or "The Family") wielding considerable power through the 1980s' was first brought before the public in the March 2003 issue of Harper's magazine (article entitled "Jesus Plus Nothing"). #TheFamily
@JeffSharlet infiltrated The Fellowship. He quoted the leader, Vereide's successor Douglas Coe,

"Coe listed other men who had changed the world through the strength of the covenants they had forged with their brothers: Look at Hitler, he said. Lenin, Ho Chi Minh, Bin Laden"
The repeated message, that barbaric and evil power becomes good when Jesus controls it, was delivered to the residents, a captive audience of the cult, "at the Family's four-story, red brick Washington town house, ... at 133 C Street S.E in Washington.
C Street was just around the corner from the Congressional office buildings. At the time of the Harper's article, "Eight congressmen, including Senator Ensign and seven representatives lived there. #TheFamily
