The tone and the content of (most) news is driving people away. And it seems many journalists just don’t get that what excites them, is just … 1/
For too long, #journalists #news #press #media have believed the tired old tropes about #journalism. ‘Journalism is printing something someone doesn’t want printed, all the rest is public relations’. ‘If it bleeds, it leads’. But surely we can do better than this?

And how do we do that? Not just by doing fluffy’n’feelgood stuff, although there’s MUCH more room in our bulletins, programmes and website for celebratory, particularly locally celebratory content than most of us seem to believe at the moment.

We don’t have to stop talking about problems, holding people to account, lifting the rock and finding what’s crawling. But as well as reporting on problems, issues, challenges, difficulties and so on, we can highlight SOLUTIONS.

It’s called #solutionsjournalism.

There are other ways to do what we do. Better ways, that serve our audiences better and take advantage of the #media’s huge potential to help make the world a better place.
