Social Repercussion: a consequence or reaction to an interaction with other people.

Social Media: websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

A wikipedia def of social below 1/
Newton& #39;s Third Law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Since people are on social media and interacting with other humans (or bots), there are reactions. Some are positive, some are negative, some neutral 2/
I am continually boggled by the facile thought patterns that some humans use when on Social Media. This is the internet. You put something out there ANYONE, at ANYTIME will a) be able to see it, b) be able to find it, c) can retrieve it even when deleted... 3/
ANYONE, at ANYTIME, may happen across a written post, a video, or photo on SM and react to it. This is a social repercussion. It is a response. It happens to all of us. Sometimes people get a lot of love. Sometimes no one says a thing (I argue that ignoring is an action) 4/
Sometimes people receive hate. And this is where the simplicity of thought blows my mind every. damn. time. The person receiving the negative feed back is actually surprised, upset, or even very angry. 5/
I& #39;ve been on the hate end. It sure is uncomfortable. You know what I learned? I either keep my fingers from tapping away at the keyboard and hitting send, or if it is THAT important, I try hard to word "nicely". I TRY not to offend. Does it work? Oh hell no. 6/
Let& #39;s talk about ASSUMED RISK for a second.

Legal definition of Assumed Risk: assumption of risk. n. 1) taking a chance in a potentially dangerous situation.

I use it more of "taking a chance when participating in an action/exchange", but I digress. 7/
When I post to Twitter, I know my tweet may be misinterpreted, taken out of context, RT, have a screenshot taken, have a meme made, or what have you. That is an ASSUMED RISK on my part. 8/
Every single time a person posts to the internet, they take on an ASSUMED RISK. There may be a SOCIAL REPERCUSSION for what they post. And let& #39;s go back to the negative reaction part....WHY are people surprised? 9/
Especially when they have written something or uploaded a video where their presentation, quite frankly, sucks and can easily be interpreted negatively. "OMG, the hate! The haters! Someone took a screenshot! Someone RT me! That isn& #39;t what I meant!" 10/
Too bad. You hit send, you took an ASSUMED RISK, you are experiencing a SOCIAL REPERCUSSION, for being SOCIAL, on SOCIAL MEDIA. 11/
My mom taught me early in life, "Do NOT put anything in writing, that you DO NOT want to be seen by everyone". 12/
Now. I am aware that there will be social repercussions to this tweet. I& #39;m okay with that, because I understand what assumed risk is, and I am prepared to stand behind what I just wrote. Are you??
