Based on today’s financial update – and the team’s decline in recent years – here’s why I think @WilliamsRacing should quit #F1 and instead focus on #FormulaE

The team’s budget it increasingly small by #F1 standards, but enough to comfortably compete in #FormulaE, where costs are lower and there are more spec parts – Jaguar Racing spent $11.1 million funding their team in 2018 (compared to $150m for Williams in F1)

Furthermore, @WilliamsAdvEng (the profitable side of the Williams Group at present), was the sole battery supplier for #FormulaE’s first four seasons, so they have great insight https://www.williamsf1.com/advanced-engineering/what-we-do/case-studies/formula-e
#FormulaE cars with Williams batteries travelled a total distance of 240,000kms with just two on-track failures – a reliability of more than 99.5% https://www.williamsf1.com/advanced-engineering/what-we-do/case-studies/formula-e
So why FE? Williams was synonymous with innovation and winning – they claimed their first #F1 Constructor’s Championship in only their fourth season! FE has a much more level playing field, where innovation provides the edge
Arguably Williams’ current struggles are the result of multiple engine manufacturers letting them down in #F1, but in FE they can take back control of their own tech, budgets and strategy on a more equal footing - and racing drivers on talent rather than budget
Here they can make their budgets stretch further, while publicly advertising their wider business (Williams are to provide World Rallycross EV batteries), and have a greater chance of success, rather than fading further into F1 obscurity
Finally, with motorsport following the growing trend towards electrification, Williams can once again claim a stake at the forefront of motorsport and future-proof its business – making a calculated decision to move forward towards the future on their own terms
