I’ve been searching around for info and data on the carbon footprint of cloud hosting providers, and it seems @anne_e_currie and @PaulDJohnston’s “State of Data Center Energy Use” report has the best overview: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eCCb3rgqtQxcRwLdTr0P_hCK_drIZrm1Dpb4dlPeG6M">https://docs.google.com/document/...
As far as AWS is concerned: US West (Oregon), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland), GovCloud (US-West) and Canada (Central) are 100% carbon neutral. US East is estimated to be 50%. Want carbon neutral CI? Run your CI stack in one of these regions.
Google Cloud is 100% carbon neutral and has the best sourcing of renewable energy for their data centers.
Azure is also 100% carbon neutral (and has been so since 2014) but relies a lot on carbon offsetting.
Would love to know of any other good data sources to understand SaaS carbon footprints.
