Kpoppies love to discredit BTS achievements and act like 2nd gen groups or Psy made it easier for them to conquer America. So I’m stating the FACTS about their faves “achievements” here in America vs BTS unprecedented success. I’m not here to insult any group- ONLY STATING FACTS.
1st a lesson in the American Music market: its the #1 music market in the world. It accounts for Billions of $ and it’s where EVERYONE wants to succeed. Setting foot in America means NOTHING. Charting #172 in America means NOTHING. Being on morning TV in America means NOTHING .
In America in order to really make an impact you have to sell a lot of albums, you have to be on the radio, you have to chart really high, you have to win American awards like Billboard or Grammys and you have to sell out stadiums. Not one 2nd gen group has done ANY of that.
There are MANY American artists who are completely unknown to the general public who chart at #20 or get played on the radio. They go on a few TV shows and sell a 100k and that’s it. Even with all that most people have no idea who they are and they’re American singing in English.
So you want to believe that your faves can come here- barely chart, go on a few tv shows, sell less than 20k, have a small tour that isn’t sold out, not win 1 American award or get played on the radio and you think they did something?
I’m making this thread for those kooppies who aren’t even American telling ME what’s popular here and who’s making an impact. Bitch I would know- you wouldn’t. And trust when I say your faves- literally any group other than BTS- have done jack shit in America.
First group is Girls Generation- a 2nd gen group. Many kpoppies like to use them as an example of “paving the way” for BTS. They’ve sold 7,000 albums in the US, have 0 #1 singles on World Songs chart and 1 BB200 single at #110. No radioplay, no sold out shows or awards.
2nd group is BigBang. They have only sold 4,000 albums in the US. They only had 2 songs on BB200 - #150 and #172 and only one #1 on World Albums chart. They also had no radioplay, won no awards here and had no sold out tours.
Next is every kpoppies favorite- PSY. While psy did see SOME success in the US- he was a 1 hit wonder. He’s remembered as a joke and a meme. He never had an album chart- only a few songs. He was only here for 1 year and failed to do much after that.
Last is 2NE1- a girl group that also had a SMALL level of success here. They had 1 song on the BB200 at #61 and made a few year end lists of best pop albums. They did not however get radioplay, any #1s, any awards or sold out tours.
Now let’s move on to BTS organic success: they started charting on Billboard back in 2013 where No More Dream (their debut song) charted on the World Songs Chart.
After only 3 years BTS became the highest charting Korean artist on BB200 charting at #26 with Wings- a digital only release with no promo.
That year they also became the first and so far ONLY Korean artist to chart #1 on Billboards social 50 chart.
Since then BTS has had 3 Hot100 songs, 94 songs on the world song chart- 16 #1s, 9 albums on BB200 with 3 #1s. They are the highest charting, most successful Korean artist on Billboard and NO GROUP HAS COME EVEN CLOSE TO THEM.
BTS is also the only korean artist to win Billboard awards, AMAs, Peoples Choice Awards and MTV awards (in the US). They’ve had 4 MAINSTREAM top 40 hits with radioplay (without payola)
BTS also sold out 3 tours in the US including a stadium tour which no other Korean artist has done. They landed on Time magazines cover and were dubbed Next Generation Leaders.
BTS has attended every major American award show including The Grammys where they presented and Billboard and American Music Awards where they respectively won awards. They’re also members of the Recording Academy of Music.
They’ve appeared on major tv shows like Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel, The Tonight Show, Late Late Show, Stephen Colbert Show, America’s Got Talent, Good Morning America and were the only korean act as a headliner on the GMA summer concert series. & were interviewed by @RecordingAcad
And BTS has always had a following in the US. Many kpop acts play KCON but BTS always has some of the loudest cheers as seen in this video of KCON in 2014- 2 years before they became the highest charting group on billboard.
That’s called organic growth. Many groups today don’t have that. They see BTS success and think overnight they can achieve the same. But they can’t. BTS has something that other groups don’t and that’s proven by their dedicated fan base.
It doesn’t matter whether your faves are 2nd gen or 3rd. No one paved the way for BTS because they’ve done more than any group ever has. They were charting head to head with 2nd gen groups in 2014-2016 and eventually they surpassed them and haven’t looked back since 💜
And let’s not forget that BTS has sold almost 2M albums in the US and have 7 RIAA certifications including 2 gold albums and 2 platinum singles. They also have certifications in Brazil, South Korea, Japan, Mexico and Australia.
So please kpoppies tell me how groups that didn’t have 1 ounce of BTS success in America could have possibly paved the way for them. You can’t pave a road you haven’t travelled and no group has been on BTS successful road.
Delusional tweets like these were my inspiration for this post. These kpoppies keep saying 2nd gen groups were SO popular here and now 3rd gen groups are “making it” and it’s laughable how dumb these people are. The ONLY group to truly make it in America has been BTS! PERIOD 💜
