Waktu gue awal di Jakarta, gue dapet a GREAT mentor yang ngasih gue tips2 untuk menghadapi kerjaan di Jakarta. It is useful for me, so I will share it here if anyone need it!
1. Orang lahir beda-beda. Uang, pendidikan, lingkungan, semuanya beda. Yang sama cuma waktu. Sehari kita dikasih 24 jam, ga lebih sedetik ga kurang sedetik. Tergantung kita sepenuhnya mau ngapain sama waktu itu. Mau dipake rebahan atau produktif? Terserah. Its on us.
2. Orang yang ngajakin kita main, atau distract us from our work, (walaupun temen), kalau kita gagal cuma bakal bilang “wah I’m so sorry for that bro” atau “udah gapapa pasti bisa”. Sukses bisa dinikmatin bareng-bareng. Gagal mostly ditanggung sendiri. Focus on yourself.
3. There’s always excuse for everything. “Ah she’s out of my league” , “Tapi gue orangnya pemalu”, “Gue gapunya modal”. That’s bullshit. Take every opportunity. If you win, you live. If you lose, you die. If you dont fight, you cant win. Fight.
Bangun tidur, focus on clearing those checklist sebelum lakuin hal lain. It’s a simple thing that will help you get your shit together.
Stay stupid. Stay thirsty. Stay paranoid. You will never figure out the world, it’s enigmatic and will never stop changing. The only time you should be happy if you live your life in constant fear.
6. If you want something done, do it yourself. Eyes on the goal, eyes on the ball. Take shit from no one.
7. Karakter orang bisa kelihatan jelas dr bagaimana dia memperlakukan waitress, tukang parkir, abang gojek, dll.
8. Mau hire orang? Prioritaskan dl karakter, integritas, militansi, baru seberapa pinter dia dalam handle kerjaannya. Pinter bisa diajarin over time, karakter enggak.
Itung-itung uang sekolah. Tp kalau cuma dapet earning doang dan u ga nyaman / ga berkembang, ditch the job.
10. Good worker learns from his mistake. Great worker learns from the mistake of others. Termasuk the fact that sometimes people can be a complete moron.
11. Selalu kerja serapi mungkin! Lo gabakal tahu bakal ketemu siapa hari itu and first impression is a judgmental little bitch that will see you from how you look, smell and talk. Once you lost it, you will never have it again.
12. In a business pitch, se gapunya duit apapun lo, atau se ga di cover sama kantor, always take the bill. It somehow sometimes makes them feel like they owe you something and it’s harder for them to say no.
Eating is intimate for human, jd kata beliau lebih gampang merasa deket kalau udh pernah makan bareng. Its science and shit dawg.
13. Terkait kerja pro bono, beliau pernah menekan-kan mengenai reputasi.
14. Give credit when it’s due. Kalau orang kerjanya bagus, bilang bagus. Kalau enggak, ya enggak. Let people do the same to you. Orang Indo ga suka konfrontasi tp malah jd ribet sendiri ga kelar kerjaan. Eyes on the ball, eyes on the goal. Sisanya belakangan.
15. Always be kind to people but when someone fuck with you never let them get away with it for the rest of their live. Be a gentle, revenge-ridden terror Dragon.
I think that is it! Sebenernya masih banyak banget but I dont think they are politically appropriate or applicable to general situation lol. Disclaimer: the tips are all subjective and all risk associated are yours. Choose wisely.
