things that we’ve done in this first week of school:

write metaphors
write a six word memoir
play pass the apple
create, take & hold space
write vocabulary words 7 times each
read poetry, specifically, “Rifle II” from the book Helium written by
Rudy Francisco @RudyFrancisco

we played dice in class for days...

they could define metaphor but were stumped when asked to write an example...

so we used the dice to teach metaphor & they finally understood

we used the phrases
which is to say
by which I mean

It’s spirit week here & today is Tropical Tuesday & upon being asked where is her tropical spirit my senior replied:

Valerio, tell her what you & I both know:

I don’t need a tropical themed shirt

just look at me & my skin says

& I just nodded & hummed in agreement
