Let's do free and cheap SAT and ACT resources... A thread for those who don't want to pay for tutoring #sattest #acttest #satscores #actscores
Been tutoring 10... 11... Maybe 12 years... Bought $1k worth of books and tons of resources. Even if you have a tutor these will help
The official sat book. All the test are online at http://collegeboard.org  for free but if you are a junior or 100 points away don't waste ink, just buy the book. I don't find the lessons useful but for practice test ONLY TAKE THE SAT OFFICIAL TESTS
When you run out of practice test go to Reddit and look up official SAT released test and do those.
More compact than the SAT with ACT test available online. Great for practice tests. Pretty good exercises
Again, I've been tutoring for almost a decade. Old sat and new. This book is one of the most powerful books I've ever bought for SAT. Students I've used this book with have seen huge increases in short amount of times. I used his method with a student and saw 50 pts in 10 days
And same with the ACT companion. If I only could save one SAT or ACT book in a fire... No that makes me too sad, I'd try to save them all but Mike and Patrick Barrett's book are the ones I'd grab first
Now that I actually know how to do a thread... Let's resume. No one: what are the best sat and act books and resources... Me: well...
http://1600.io  what a blessing. I watch this and I'm amazed. Great monthly price for any student. Free course as well. Free strategy. Every student who uses it loves this resource. Even if you have a tutor, how many hours do you spend with him or her?
Pro tip: don't just study what you are getting wrong, use http://1600.io  to give over what you are getting right and the questions in black book to ensure you can replicate it. Strengths first then weaknesses
Now if you need to drill down on math or writing, college panda is a great bet. All the SAT and ACT writing love goes Meltzer but I love Panda for writing as well. Practice problems for math tend to be more challenging but I love these books
College panda is great for kids in the 1100 SAT and 20ish ACT above range for math. But if you also buy his practice test math book (❤️❤️❤️) you can tailor it for any student at any range.
Now writing and the SAT writing Bible: Meltzer.
Before I start let me say this: writing is one of the easiest areas to get the most amount of points in the shortest amount of time. It is so easy to focus on math because it's tanigble ( #satwords) but writing is the easier mountain to move for ACT and SAT.
Master pronouns, punctuation, subject-verb agreement, verb tenses and you'll improve your score. If you are going for NCAA eligibility, and off by a couple points on the SAT: writing, ACT: writing and science
Before I get to the book let me give you the must have writing lesson that are F-R-E-E on @khanacademy that are a must
@khanacademy essential writing lessons. Khan http://academy.org >sat>practice>writing. Use for both sat and act...
The "wait the SAT/ACT is this week" definitive guide to last minute writing prep.
Also, make sure you focus on strengths not weaknesses only. If you sync up your @khanacademy to @CollegeBoard they will tell you what to improve on based on your test performance
I tell kids spend 2/3 on your strengths and 1/3 on your weaknesses if you are last minute prepping... All the points are worth the same
Now finally, writing by Meltzer. This and college panda writing are my go to books. Since ACT and SAT writing are so similar if you buy one, you'll have enough. Love her practice problems and the guide in the back telling you which types questions show up on the practice SAT
The grammar workbook... I could live without. Not because it isn't good, it is. Just because I truly believe you should exhaust all the practice problems the SAT gives you before moving on to practice tests
Great for math for SAT but a little more advanced. I would say if you are 1100-1200 range trying to go up this book is a perfect fit. The backsolving and plugging in and all of the heart of algebra lessons and percent, ratios lessons are great for all score ranges
Pro tip: Easiest area to improve on for last minute prep for SAT math is problem solving and data analysis. Use @khanacademy for that and http://1600.io
Forgot Meltzer's reading. I find reading a passage then going over the explanation to be the best way to prep reading but this book has great exercises too
Went out in the car in the rain to get this book because it's worth it. If I could only prep with one act book, I would ditch the official red book, print the test, and get this one
Every single student who I've ever used this book with improved their Science score almost overnight. @PrivatePrep's act science book is the one book every single person taking the ACT needs. It makes the ACT science section simple
live footage of my kids after I tutor with the love of ACT science book by @PrivatePrep. One girl went from getting only one or two right to near perfect performance within 2 days
Used the I love the SAT transition word chart for years:
https://www.lovethesat.com/transition-words-on-the-sat his book is very helpful. He doesn't try to nickel and dime by selling the same book twice. Again, SAT writing and ACT writing are almost identical. Love this book!!!
I know some students don't love @SupertutorTV but she's effective and I love her. Recommend her
If you ever have a question about ACT and SAT prep: @PrepScholar probably wrote 15 articles on it 😂😂😂. Their SEO is unmatched. Great resource
I just got the ACT science prep book and am going over it now
Need a challenge for ACT reading or science to get that perfect score... @IvyGlobalNews is great. Also love their math mini lessons. Like the SAT and ACT one not pictured
A challenge for students in the 1400-1600 and wanting to improve on math: Dr. Jang. Same for ACT
Not my favorite for practice tests but pretty good lessons for math and writing
Like this ACT book for the diagnostic and the math lessons
Math explanations are usually horrible but this book from @MarksPrep does and amazing job. If you need to self-study but are struggling with explanations this and http://1600.io  are incredibly helpful
I think I'm done...
Yup...
New addition: @JaxTutor's videos. Always available and very helpful. And yields... https://twitter.com/jaxtutor/status/1172243307013038080?s=21

Did forget to mention that Quantum has @SATQuantum not just @QuantumACTPrep. Already showed love to @QuantumACTPrep but both resources are amazing. Use them myself to prep for sessions and review problems. Short videos available at all times. Affordable. use this with my kids
Someone asked if they could include this in their slides for students and if I objected
