My story..
Growing up I was a skinny kid, but once I hit puberty all that changed.
At 17, in the school common room I lapped up toast and biscuits, and my weight started to climb. By the time I hit my twenties, I was a couple of stones overweight.
I was good at hiding it, though, wearing black and using all the slimming underwear I could find.
Through my twenties and thirties, I tried various diets. I went low fat. I went low calorie. I joined Slimming World on several occasions. I even became a Consultant and managed to lose three stones.
However… it all came back, and brought friends.
I managed to lose a fair bit of weight by going low fat and spending hours at the gym just prior to meeting @calv_hunt . However once we were dating my desire to spend time with him outranked my desire to train so the gym work stopped.
We ate out frequently and unsurprisingly my weight increased. By the time we married 18 months later, I was at least couple of stones overweight… again.
Two lovely children later, I am sitting on the sofa with a newborn, six stones over my current weight, and I knew I needed to get my health back on track. I was tired. I was in pain. I’d even been asked if my newborn daughter was my GRANDDAUGHTER by a shop assistant.
It wasn’t her fault. I looked old. This was 5 ½ years ago.
But what to do? I knew Slimming World wasn’t the answer. I knew some people managed to keep their weight down with no effort… how could I do that?
I couldn’t face another diet – feeling deprived and hungry all the time, eating unpalatable food, craving all the wrong things. I’d also seen the doctor about my symptoms and was dismissed with a ‘that’s what to expect at your age’.
I spent hours trawling the Internet, and hit upon a few sites that would change my life. Tom Naughton’s ‘Fat Head’ documentary was the starting point. I then found Mark’s Daily Apple. I ditched grains, and almost immediately I felt better.
I went Paleo, ditching heavily processed foods in favour of making everything from scratch. Within six months I had lost three stones in weight and gained a new lease of life.
From that point, 5 years ago, I have moved through LCHF and Keto to where I am now, near Carnivore. I have lost a further three stones and am the lightest I have been since a mid-teenager. I feel twenty years younger.
My skin has improved, I sleep better, my joints are fine, I feel like moving my body and have developed an interest in fitness.
I am looking forward to life in my fifties – a few years ago I was preparing to slow down. Now, at 48…. I’m looking for fresh challenges.
It’s NEVER too late.

Fin. 😊
