Why Michael Jordan is the Greatest Of All Time. A Thread
Before this thread starts, I just want to say that this thread won’t be here to bash LeBron, Magic, or anyone else who is in the discussion. The thread will simply go over MJs stats, accolades, and adding context to arguments that I have heard trying to discredit MJ

Miscellaneous Accomplishments

Only rookie to lead his team in Points, Rebounds, Assists, and Steals. Only 3 other players have averaged 20-5-5 as a rookie, LeBron James, Oscar Robertson, and Tyreke Evans. However, MJ is the only one out of these 4 to average 2 steals as well
Michael Jordan is the only guard to put up over 2,500 points in 5 straight seasons. In the 6th season, he missed 2,500 by less than 100 points and continued to drop over 2,500 the next season after. MJ is also 1 of 2 players (Wilt) to score over 3,000 points in a season
Michael Jordan is the only player to get 250+ steals and 125+ blocks in a season. Only 2 other players have gotten 200+ steals and 100+ blocks in a season (Hakeem and Pippen have done it once). Michael Jordan has gotten 200+ steals and 100+ blocks twice
MJ has the record for the most points in a playoff game with 63 points while being guarded by Larry Bird. This was against one of the best teams in NBA History. This team had the best defensive rating in the league and went on to win the Championship
This was also only MJs second season ever. He broke his foot this season as well, and he only played 18 regular season games. After the game, Larry Bird said he thinks MJ is God in disguise
Michael Jordan is the only player to average 40+ PPG for a playoff series more than twice, and he has done it FIVE times. He also has the highest PPG for a playoff series with 45.2
To continue with MJs playoff dominance, he has the most 40 point playoff games as well with 38 in 179 appearances. The next highest is LeBron with 27, but he has 238 appearances
Next I will be talking about one of the most insane stats ever. From November 7th, 1990 until MJ hit the shot against the Jazz to win his 6th championship, he never lost 3 games in a row. That’s a 2.777 day streak
That’s 500 Regular Season Games and 126 Playoff Games. That’s 626 total games where MJ didn’t lose 3 in a row. The odds of an NBA Team achieving this is 1 in 1 QUADRILLION (.000000000000166%). Thanks to JxmyHighroller on YT for the visuals
The next part of this thread is something that most people won’t like, and something debated everyday amongst people on twitter, Instagram, any form of social media or even real life. The next part will be why Michael Jordan is Greater and Better than LeBron James
Let’s start off with accolades. The gap between LeBron and MJ is a Hall of Fame Career.

9 Scoring Titles
3 Rings
3 Finals MVPs
1 MVP
1 DPOY
4 All Defensive 1st Teams
Let’s move on to Scoring. A lot of people would say LeBron is the better scorer because he scores more efficiently. LeBron has a .006 advantage on Jordan on FG% and LeBron actually has a lower PER by .3, which is one of the most referred to advanced stats
Most of LeBron’s shots also come within 3 feet of the basket, while MJ made most of his shots from the mid range area. Out of the top 100 scorers in NBA history, LeBron is ranked 6 amongst SF in FG Efficiency. MJ is ranked 2 amongst SG, behind Walter Davis, who shot 9k less shots
Let’s move on to Rebounding and Assisting. One of the biggest arguments I hear is that LBJ is the better player because he can rebound and pass better than Jordan could. This lacks a lot of context. These stats heavily depend on era (rebounding) and who runs the offense (assists)
In today’s era, there are a lot more longer rebound attempts because of all of the three point shots being thrown up, back then no one shot near as many 3s as people do in today’s game. LeBron is also a lot bigger than Jordan was, so it should be easier for him
As for assists, LeBron has always been the orchestrator for the offense. MJ was usually a guy who caught the ball on the elbow and went to work. He played in an offense that was made to allow MJ to get buckets on his opponents
However, Michael did orchestrate the offense once. In the 1989 season, MJ ran PG for the last 24 games. He got 15 assists in his first game, and recorded a triple double the next game with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 assists in only 32 minutes
In those 24 games, Jordan averaged 30.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 10.7 assists, and 2.4 steals. He recorded 7 triple doubles in a row and also recorded 10 triple doubles in 11 an 11 game stretch. This was just a tiny amount of what MJ could have done over his whole career at PG
Let’s move on to defense. MJ is 3rd all time on the all time steals list. MJ has played around 100 games less than LeBron and is still ahead by almost 600 steals. MJ averaged more steals and more blocks despite being way smaller than LeBron
Michael Jordan has 9 defensive first team appearances (tied for first all time) and LeBron only has 5. Michael Jordan also has a DPOY award. LeBron is 34 years old and he is starting to decline on defense. When MJ was 35, he made first team all defense.
