Aug 29th 1958 the Morrisons got into a huge argument at the Latimer Rd Tube Station. They were a mixed couple, Majbritt was Swedish + Raymond was Jamaican

Context: These Teddy Boys had been super bothered by the increase in Caribbean immigrants in the North Kensington area throughout the mid-50s. They were not happy to see an interracial couple

Following the Teddy Boys aggression towards Mrs. Morrison Notting Hill erupted in violence. 100s of young white men went out to throw homemade firebombs at Black residents’ homes.

The next yr a disgraced politician, Oswald Mosley, ran for a seat in Kensington Parliment by pandering to these racist white men
His platform: “Forced repatriation” of West Indians + a ban on interracial marriages. HE LOST

It was at St Pancras Town Hall in January 1959. It was on the BBC, + was organized by Claudia Jones,. She is the Mother of Caribbean Carnival in Britain
