LADY GAGA | THE FAME | 11 YEARS OF IMPACT | A THREAD
Today marks 11 years since Lady Gaga released her debut album THE FAME and changed the world one sequin at a time. Here's a thread celebrating the album and its cultural impact & importance on music, fashion and pop culture.
First of all, the most important fact is that Lady Gaga brought back the image of the huge popstar. She started from nowhere and became the biggest star of the world overnight. "I want to revolutionize the pop scene. The last time someone did that was in the 80s with Madonna."
With THE FAME Gaga brought back pop music into the map. In 2008 pop music was slowly fading away and the rnb influence of the 2000s was taking over. Lady Gaga turned the last page to the pop music book of the 2000s decade, turned the page and started writing a brand new book.
She worked hard to achieve her success; she performed Just Dance at IKEA & small bars until it was sent to the radio and became a worldwide massive hit. One year later she was performing it in sold out stadiums all around the world.
With her performances, image, candid pics, videos & bizzarre fashion Gaga had every tabloid & person in the world talking about her. At some point you couldn’t tell Lady Gaga the artist and Lady Gaga the person apart. She mastered the art of fame like no one else from her peers.
Achieving that amount of FAME at her early 20s was a huge knock but she found a way to survive all the cameras, paparazzi, news & haters. She played with the camera as much as she wanted to & gave the camera what she needed to. Here's Gaga talking about mastering the art of FAME.
The images & controversies she served during THE FAME & next album Born This Way were so huge that people in Indonesia held protests for an entire week so that she will cancel her shows there. That didn’t work & then they threatened to bomb the stadium she would perform into.
Lady Gaga mixed fashion, religion, politics, drama all into her music and created one of the best albums of all time. She was on just the SECOND YEAR of her career and everyone was already comparing her to Madonna, Cher, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson...
At a certain point of her two-year-old career music magazines claimed Lady Gaga to be the Queen of Pop and one of the most famous people on planet Earth among with Jesus Christ, the Beatles, Madonna & MJ.
THE FAME was so huge that universities around the world starting creating courses around Lady Gaga. Students started studying courses on how people can achieve that much of success and fame in just 1 year like Lady Gaga did. https://www.bbc.com/news/education-11672679
One of the peaks of THE FAME era was the Meat Dress. The whole world was in shock at the time & dragged her to the pits of hell. The Meat Dress is the most iconic & memorable dress since Marilyn's white dress. It has its own wikipedia page &is now being exhibited in museums.
One of the reasons why THE FAME was so huge was the theatricality Lady Gaga gave us. Every song, every video, every performance was a different story, a different message and all of it done differently, she never recycled herself, only reinvented herself.
During THE FAME Lady Gaga was the most viewed artist on every video site. Every video she released was an instant classic. Bad Romance is to this date considered the best video of the new millennium and second best video of all time. Iconic looks & countless awards.
Every video was different. Every video was a mini movie with a huge production, choreography and looks. Lady Gaga revolutionized the music videos scene. All of her peers and artists that came after her were impacted and it shows.
THE FAME is certified Platinum and is close to Diamond. It exceeds 33.000.000 units worldwide according to chartmasters. PF & BR are both Diamond and JD is next. All of the singles peaked in the top10 of every country. All of the videos are VEVO certified.
THE FAME is one of the most successful albums ever and the best selling digital era of all time. It's also one of the most awarded albums in history. It has won 5 Grammys, 3 Brits & 11 VMAS & 18 MTV awards in total.
Many critics and artists cite THE FAME as the album that introduced EDM in the mainstream and the radio. Music engineers and music managers credit Lady Gaga as the artist who put the four-on-the-floor beat on radio.
Here's DJ Tommie Sunshine spilling burning TEA on the impact of THE FAME and how it basically invented EDM and made it possible for DJs around the world to have hit songs and start careers. ☕🐸
THE FAME is the 2nd best selling EDM album of 2019. It's still charting on billboard charts after 11 YEARS. This week IN 2000 FKIN 19, Poker Face is sitting at #22 of the EDM songs charts and THE FAME at #4 of the top Dance/Electronic albums of 2019.
