{Thread} To never being plagued by solo rumors! - As a lifelong boyband fan, something that really stands out to me about @BTS_twt is how they’re encouraged to do solo work but remain SUCH a strong group. For a group with their massive fame & success, this is a big deal.
I look back at groups like *NSYNC, Jonas Brothers, & 1D & can’t ignore the fact they all had constant rumors of solo interest - eventually leading to a “breakup” of some level. But BTS is different.
I was shocked when I first learned in my early days of the fandom that Namjoon & Yoongi had released solo work & collabs. They all even had a whole SoundCloud for FREE special releases. In my history of loving boybands, this was absolutely never a thing!
It’s so incredibly unique & denies the media the option to speculate on a member wanting to go solo. They already can, while still being a member of BTS! They get the best of both worlds & take away a massive negative speculation opportunity.
The pattern of boybands breaking up due to solo interest is definitely a factor in the western media’s confusion over this current vacation. They truly have never seen a group actually be able to work like this before.
There’s a lot more to say about other boybands, their rise & fall, & media perception, but that’s for another day. What I’m getting at here is how unique this aspect of BTS is for anyone who grew up in the 90s/early 2000s.
In a group with 7 members with such different talents, BigHit encourages their artists to use their skills outside of their responsibilities as a group. Like any boss, they’re doing what they can to ensure their employees feel happy, creative, & heard. That’s good management.
BigHit tells them that the solo work needs to be created by them. They also include solo opportunities in the actual @BTS_twt catalogue & concerts. That’s HUGE for so, so many reasons & I love how much the fandom loves & appreciates that.
As we enter into a new era with new contracts & members growing more into their adulthood & creative selves, we can see so much more from them as a group & individuals. I’m so excited.
Loving OT7 means supporting the group as well as the work they do as individual artists. I can’t wait to see what they all have in store for us & I’m grateful that they have this awesome balance.
