Thread: abt THAT Hermes, China bank fraud, corruption, come back story and true love

First, please stop saying that birkin "sold out in China" and sounding like a peasant! You can't just walk into Hermes and buy a birkin. And a special order, which this is, is only for the VVIPs https://twitter.com/goldencaskcap/status/1161661772731994114
That birkin was custom made for Mao Yuping, also known as Mo Yuk-Ping in HK in 2012, supposedly by Hermes’s Artistic Director Pascale. Although Ms Mo referred to Pascale as Mr (she’s a lady), Hermes has confirmed the authenticity of the bag. Here is Mo’s weibo announcement
Ms. Mo is wife of Zhou Zhengyi, a name that might sound familiar to long time China watchers. He was once one of China's richest man, with an empire of real estate, retail and other businesses. See, back in 2003, China wanted to clean up its banks
Among Mr. Zhou's deals under investigation is a $600m project in downtown Shanghai...Mr. Zhou is seeking to relocate more than 2,000 city residents living in the area...some of the residents alleged Mr. Zhou colluded with senior officials to pressure residents to leave...
Looks bad, dude! So bad that even Beijing was alarmed and demanded action against Zhou. He was arrested. But this was China in 2003 and Zhou had powerful friends. Instead of being held accountable for all his actions, he was indicted with "stock market fraud"...in China.
He was released after serving only 2 yrs in what can be described as "lavish" conditions in jail. Meanwhile, our heroine, Ms. Mo, was arrested and sentenced to jail in Hong Kong for 3 yrs for market manipulation and loan fraud. Quite the power couple! https://www.news.gov.hk/isd/ebulletin/en/category/lawandorder/060428/html/060428en08001.htm
This time, Zhou had become a target in BJ’s campaign against the Shanghai faction as one of the biggest donors of bribes. Zhou was arrested and charged with giving bribes and falsifying tax invoices and sentenced to 16 yrs. Ms. Mo, in retrospect, got an easy deal in HK
And she appears to be a genuinely popular person. More than 200 celebrities and dignitaries, including Jacky Chan and several HK billionaires, wrote to court to appeal for a more lenient sentence. She served 3 years. http://hk.crntt.com/crn-webapp/doc/docDetailCreate.jsp?coluid=0&kindid=0&docid=100085165
Normally, when something like that happens to your family, you vanish from social scenes and discussions, and hope to live the rest of your life in peace. But not for Ms. Mo! Although not nearly as rich as before assets confiscation, she somehow still manages to live lavishly
So we come back to the birkin! After her weibo show-off, Chinese netizens collectively barfed🤮But a woman like that isn't going to go down without a fight! Here is her response to haters: referring to the flag "countless blood of martyrs made this great race!"
She continues: "everyone has a past, but the present is the most important. I very much enjoy my current sunny, simple life" (of being a Hermes VVIP while my former billionaire husband is still in jail). But hey, haters gotta hate.
So that was the last that bag was seen in public forum. Until Ms. Mo got tired of it apparently, and somehow it ended up on Modaoperandi for a second hand price of HK$979,555. Don't have much color for the story there, but she definitely paid a lot more than that 🤷‍♀️
What about her husband Zhou? Well, back in his golden days he had quite a few rumors with actresses and models, but Ms. Mo claims she and rest of family still eager await his release from prison, ~2023. /Fin
